Editor's review of mDigger Reader
This free news reader service works well, but its limitations in content selections could be too constraining for some users.
mDigger Reader requires you to create a free account on the tools Web site, where you'll find a list of preloaded content providers in a number of popular categories (headlines, news, business and finance, sports, entertainment). From this list you select the content sources you want. From that point on, launching mDigger Reader opens the latest news from your selected sources.
mDigger has a nice interface, with an uncluttered, browser-like window listing headlines from your preferred sources. In our tests, the tool responded quickly when updating and opening stories. But we didn't like having to open a Web site and make selections (instead of through the desktop client) before we could use the tool. Further, we were unable to add news sources to the preloaded list. We could only use what mDigger provided. Finally, we weren't able to easily add news sources after making our selections and logging out of the Web site. Whatever we started with from our first log-in, thats what we were stuck with.
This reader is easy to use. However, its limitations will frustrate experienced users. There are plenty of free readers available that offer greater flexibility.
