Version: ZoneAlarm Security Suite 7.0.483
"Effective, Cooperative, Friendly, Informative Progam"
Pros: Unlike Norton, I haven't seen any viruses get through. Also, when there is an alert, it gives you an understandable explanation of what's going on and gives you the option to launch a ZoneAlarm webpage if there's not enough info on the Alert popup. Those webpages are SO helpful, describing exactly the situation you're encountering with invaluable advice, like ZA is in it with you. I've never gotten this from Norton.
It doesn't turn the (sub)title bar red or give you an "!" next to virus/spyware protection if you have Auto Updates turned off. That was the worst thing I hated about Norton.
Good price @$40 for both a Firewall and full Antivirus plus Spyware protection.
The system tray icon changes to a moving bar graph when it's scanning so that you know why things aren't happening immediately.
In the main window it shows horizontal activity indicators for download and upload traffic, something I've not seen in Norton but a comfort to know ZAISS7 is monitoring it all.
The user interface is very friendly and not overly complicated, though there are plenty of options.
I've never had a problem with e-mail before I got this product, so after trying it, I turned e-mail and IM protection off since I don't usually IM. I didn't like the toolbar it installed in OE. I was amazed it actually removed it when I turned e-mail protection off! The sign of a good program that doesn't force itself on you.
There were no incessant reminders my update service is about to expire, unlike Norton. I can see that information for myself clearly displayed in the Overview pane.
Unlike Panda, it works on my Windows XP SP1 OS. I recommend this to everyone with the min. sys. req. who is willing to use this exclusively for firewall/antivirus/antispyware safety.
I also like the Help screen that pops up when I click on it in a certain window of the program. It opens to the exact topic for the category I was in, service I haven't gotten so well elsewhere.
Firewall is fine. Privacy, ID theft not used. Will buy.
Cons: You do have to schedule scans at least monthly or it will flag you for that. Pretty stupid, it seems. If it's protecting me, then it shouldn't be very likely that something slipped onto my PC such that I should need a scan every week. This is fairly insignificant, though.
The trial is only 15 days. 30 would be more reasonable.
Updates leave you clueless as to specifically what it's doing for the two minutes it's downloading and installing the updates. It does tell you generally, but I begin to wonder if it's OK when the progress bar is usually empty or showing no progress. Anyway, it only failed the first time I tried it.
It does slow down my PC at startup to load itself, but not too much. Usually I keep my PC asleep when not in use so there's no bootup. Likewise, programs are delayed in launching slightly while ZAISS7 does its "on-access scanning", but it's not a major inconvenience. I just wish you could create a list of programs to exempt from on-access scanning.
I also wish you could set boundries for your manual/auto PC scans besides the size of the file, such as exempting known program and document folders, but you can only add programs (apparently not folders) to exclude after a PC scan by choosing the item IF it appears in the scan results.

Version: ZoneAlarm Security Suite 7.0.483
"SUCKS! no 64-bit support; will not install on 64-bit OS"
Cons: Box says it supports "Windows 2000/XP/Vista"; says NOTHING about 32-bit vs 64-bit. ZoneAlarm does NOT work with 64-bit OS; and they REFUSE to give refunds.
