Here's a concept: software that works for you, not against you. This handy and free ZIP application lets you customize to your heart's content so you can get the most out of the program. Program functions can be accessed either from a large, colorful menu of buttons on the main toolbar, or from a drop-down menu. If you don't like the look of either, you can change them to suit your preferences. ZipGenius works with close to two dozen file formats. Other useful options include protecting archives with a password and working directly with CD-R/RW drivers. Overall, this is a great resource for creating and maintaining ZIP files.

Pros: Its free.
It mimics the XP look and feel to a T.
Comes with skinning support.
Supports reading any archive under the sun, including RedHat RPM, Mac SQX, Quake 1/2/3/4 PAK, Linux BZIP, RAR, ACE, 7Zip, TAR, Java JAR.
It supports creation of a lot of archive types: ZIP, RPM, 7ZIP, TAR, Frontpage Web Packages?????????? WTF?!!!!! FWP!!!!!. LOL...quite the "WTF" factor with FWP.
It lets you customize every bit of the interface.
Has a tool to export arhive information to file: TXT, CSV, HTML or XML file :). That is more than WinRAR gives you!
The interface for viewing archive contents is top notch.
It includes all your standard WinRAR functions, like create SFX, split archive into volumes (which, mind I note, presents the options in a very colorful way easy for determining what size volumes you want...a much better interface than WinRAR's), password protection, encryption and decryption, archive repair, etc.
You can download PLUGINS!!!! There are maybe 5 or 6 available on the homepage, all of which are quite useful.
Integrates Windows XP's built in CD burning tool very well.

Cons: It doesn't support creation of ACE or RAR. They might have to take the route of TUGZip and build plugins which will take the winrar and winace exe files to create ACE and RAR.
Would be nice if it could become a bit like UltraISO and support reading of cd images...however there is a plugin on the website which lets you convert a ZIP image to an ISO, so I would presume this program can read ISO cd image files.

"ZipGenius is one of the best compression applications anywhere"

Pros: Descent user interface and controls, and solid compression capabilities makes this software one of the best.

*FREE

Cons: Is a little slower than we wished while compacting but is free.

"Best zip compressor there is"

Pros: This program is awesome. It's a solid program with great features. ZipGenius is amazingly easy to install and use, zips and unzips files faster than WinZip or WinRAR.

Cons: Nothing at all, perfect.

"For users who want Winzip Compression without the Winzip Price."

Pros: Free, has good compression in almost all modes, even expert interface is very simple to use, compression is fast.

Cons: Only problem i've seen is if you set a virus scanning executable to run when you open a file within an archive, it bothers you everytime asking you after the virus scan completes if it found a virus. I think that it should not ask you that everytime, but rather let the antivirus handle it if there is a virus. Other than that, very good program

"Like a jazzed up WinZip"

Pros: Conforms to Windows standard "Left hand window with basic options" and WinZip's big buttons bar at the top. But this handy tool opens nearly all files. It inserts context menus when trying to open supported files, which is nice.
