This nifty, informative program combines a screensaver and an RSS feed to bring you news from around the globe. When you launch World News Screensaver, you'll see a large, relatively well-designed model of the Earth spinning in space, along with a prominent headline and teaser text about the news item. Whenever the program switches stories, it rotates the globe to the appropriate location and pinpoints the geographic area on the map. Though the feature set is mostly pleasing, the one customization option we missed is the ability to change the size and location of the headlines and blurbs; as it is, they partially obscure the globe. However, we did like the ability to add our own music as a soundtrack, and the tool for saving a link to the full news story in a browser window is an especially nice touch. World News Screensaver also gives you a high degree of control over the appearance of the globe and lets you include or exclude sites from its list of RSS feeds. News junkies of all experience levels are urged to give this application a try.
