Version: Project Dogwaffle Free 1.2
Pros: While I am not an artist by any stretch, this does textures, backgrounds, etc. amazingly well and offers a ton of other pixel/bit based drawing/editing features that have worked as well as or better than advertised. What it does, it does very well making it a tool to keep in the arsenal.
Cons: I wish it could draw for me to make up for my lack of artistic ability. Anyone downloading this should know what this program is not: it is not a vector drawing program, you really can't draw circles, squares, and other shapes, and I am not sure I see how anything can be easily animated. It does have some but not many filters and limits graphic files imports to Targa and BMP, which is OK, not great.

Version: Project Dogwaffle Free 1.2
Pros: This has a lot of power for a freeware product. It gives me an advantage in project concept and design. My media of choice includes brushes, oils, canvases, etc, and those things are costly. Sketches and drawings are nice but do not have the texture of paint and full development of the idea can take a LOT of time. This program saves time and materials because in a matter of just a few hours I am able to generate several variations of my theme, decide on the one I like the best, and the element of disappointment is removed because I was able to see it in an oil-like presentation first.
Cons: It's freeware so there are limitations. It saves to only 2 formats, one of which is bmp. I convert the file with a different program (VCW VicMan's photo editor, also free on this site) to jpeg and all is well.
It does not offer a fine tip tool that I've been able to find. However there are a nice selection of brush types, including a fan brush effect, and other things that make up for it. Plus it's free, so why complain?

"A versatile program mimicking natural media for the serious user"
Pros: Options! From custom made brushes to a great many premade choices, I have been using this program for years and still not exhausted its possibilities. It is a complete program - though more updated versions are sold, the free version is complete and very nice. Filters allow for some nice effects and options, such as the spherize which I use to make moons. Some brush effects, such as starry, place randomized elements such as stars, leaves, bubbles, or foliage into the scene, etc. Airbrush, oil, watercolor, tempra, drybrush, pencil, pen, charcoal, pastel - Dogwaffle can mimic many forms of natural media. There is also a paper option, which allows one to paint on one of many paper type choices to mimic the texture of thick art papers. The opacity of brushes can be changed, and there are several different formats in which one can choose the colors with which to work with. There are also some gradient options. A swap buffer allows for a second layer to work on. Alphas allow one to select areas and work on them without affecting the rest of the piece. There are nice animation options, and an interesting plug in Radiant X that creates radiants for when a star or sunburst or lighting effect is needed.
A serious art program for serious artists - with a dose of fun thrown in.
Cons: The interface is not intuitive or easy for the casual user - it takes a good deal of time to learn.
Limited layers, only a buffer and a swap buffer. No cut and paste. One can import a picture as a brush and paste, but its not quite the same.
It works slower on extremely large pictures and cannot undo as many times. The program can lock up when the canvas is incredibly huge.

Version: Project Dogwaffle Free 1.2
"Overall: Below average program"
Pros: Pros? Well it is spyware/adware free, quick to install, and realtively small.
Cons: Complicated to use, the great features it brags are non existant or difficult to find. Animation is next to impossible and isn't that powerful anyway, plus painting a simple circle then 'bucket' filling it in leaves a large uncolored space between the original outline and the fill, which cannot be filled in. Many slowdowns when trying to draw on a page that has many colors on it.
Overall, I would not reccomend this software. Try Paint.NET for a free PAINT alternative. If you were looking at this program for its 'animation', you won't find it here.
