WinZip Self-Extractor
A kind of good tool for archiving but think about what you need. Got high price.
Pros: You can predefine to run the program as an administrator on Windows Vista, cool! It's a new thing from the company but you can also specify language type (they should create a switch for more texts per language, cause this is only the interface). This is English and German currently.
Command line is a very good thing unless you use other tools for archiving purposes. Also, the help is quite useful for these jobs.
The spees is ok and at the end of the wizard you can test, then even mail the archive right from the program.
Cons: If you got an example.zip which got an example.exe within and you want to run example.exe from prompt, you must rename the zip or the exe, cause the program won't do that for you (it won't allow to run example.exe cause it's the same as the new sfx name). The help need little update or correction for exact name.
124-128k is a plus to the file and some installers can attach less than this (no encryption was used).
The double-extension for the text save is just not a wise idea cause of virus scanners.
If the zip file is not password-protected, then the self-extracting Zip file won't be password-protected either. So you can forgot the advantage of encryption, whatever high number the program would use. The compression algorythm is not unique, i saw this at the free createinstall, too.
No link for the uninstaller or for home page and the price is too high, yet.
