Publisher's description of WildFire CD Ripper 2.3

From CitrixWire:

WildFire CD Ripper is pulling out the data (music) directly in digital format from an Audio CD; this kind of software is in general known as a CD Ripper or a CDDA utility. The resultant audio file can be a pure WAV file (useful for making compilation audio CDs) or the ripped audio data can be compressed using an audio encoder. Additionally, WAV files on the hard drive can be converted to a Compressed Audio File (and vice versa).

Version 2.3 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.

    Version: WildFire CD Ripper 2.3

"WildFire CD Ripper is a copy of CDex"

by Nimre on August 14, 2008

    Pros: Absolutely nothing.

Cons: I don't like anything about this software. WildFire CD Ripper was shamelessly copied from CDex and a few undesirable commercial extras were added. See this Usenet message:

    [QUOTE]

WildFire CD Ripper = CDex !!!!

But with undesirable extras and a slightly different appearance. It comes with options to make Yahoo the default search engine and to install the Dealio toolbar (...) during the program's install process.

This picture shows the resemblance: (url, see below)

Even the Help file is copied, although it's much larger than CDex's. There is no reference to the code origins, despite the obvious source. I am not sure about the legal implications of it all, but in my opinion this is not the poper, and certainly not a very moral, way to use CDex's open source code, to put it mildly. One wonders what else these crooks did with the program.

You can get the real thing here: (url, see below)

CDex is licensed under the GNU General public license 3: (url, see below)
