Publisher's description of Webroot Child Safe
From Webroot Software:
Child Safe is a comprehensive and easy-to-use solution available to keep children safe on the Internet. Child Safe offers comprehensive and flexible parental controls that block access to objectionable sites, restrict PC access and keep you informed with detailed reports. You can easily define a schedule to manage each child's use of specific programs. For example, allow only the use of spreadsheets and word processing software Monday through Friday, but grant access to game playing for three hours per day on weekends. Protect your children from Internet threats, limit Internet or game-playing time, block access to inappropriate sites, and establish time-of-day access for each child. Windows Vista compatible.

Editor's review of Webroot Child Safe
This program does a fine job of managing your PC's usage, although you can get easily lost in the barrage of initial configurations. Don't get us wrong, once you get Webroot Child Safe set up, you'll appreciate the way its restrictions and permissions work per user. The program is very well organized. We like the easily arranged schedules to restrict computer usage without restricting Internet access, and vice versa. Restricting programs, and blocking installations or access to the control panel is easily accomplished. Webroot Child Safe effectively watches over online use through keyword blocking. It is also easy to maintain trusted and restricted site lists. Log files are easy to read and can be e-mailed to watchful parents. Individual accounts are password protected, while the administrator account handles access program configurations. Busy parents will love the single-button approach to instantly block all access and to grant access across the board too. At install, you'll have several options and helpful instructions to get through in order to start using this program. After that, the application does all the hard work. The 15-day trial will give parents plenty of time to check out this monitoring tool.

Webroot Child Safe
OutSTANDING PROGRAM!

Pros: When I installed this program I was skeptical at first, and then what it captured was UNBELIEVABLE: Keystrokes, takes screen-shots, blocks sites, logs all activity on the PC for later viewing. However, overall the one of the best snoopers around. :)
Cons: If you're using MS Word it may interfere when you save the document saying "Not Enough Memory" and, will not allow you to save documents because of a bug which will be corrected soon. Does not loggin chat conversations like STARR or XPCSpy pro.

Pros: None
Cons: Have a friend who has childern, and I watched him load this onto his machine; After loading this program, it completely changed his windows settings. While I can understand that keeping childern safe on the net is important, there are other parental control programs out there that do a much better job. I will not be using this, and have already e mailed webroot, and given them my thoughts on this too.

Webroot Child Safe
Work well

Pros: Not sure what the other reviewer was ranting about when they said it changes your account settings. It does add an Admin account called CSCONTROL, I wish it would just use the PC administrator account, but on the other hand what if the PC was setup up initially as only 1 user probably being Admin... This would give the child your trying to stop from being able to do certain things the ability to easily bypass the safe guards. From what I have seen it does not change any settings that are detrimental to the health of the PC.
Now, functionality, works great. I even have the remote host installed (Came with the software) so that I can manage the Child Safe settings remotely. If my kid gets in trouble and I find out about it I can kill his INTERNET access from my office through SSL/VPN without even coming home.
I tried many different ways to get to porn, and it blocked me everytime. This is basically what I bought it for, when you come home and see your 10 yr old surfing porn sites it's a wake up call.
Also, I love the scheduling feature. I can restrict usage to certain times of the day, and I can also do that for his games or any other application on the PC. So I have his PC setup so that he can only play games after 6PM. This makes sure he does his homework before playing video games.
So far this is not the most powerful package I have seen, but it is very effective, and for $39 for 3 seats... is a cost effective package.
Cons: Would like to see a little bit more control over how it installs, but this is minor being honest.

Webroot Child Safe
Great not only for internet filtering but also managing my childs usage
by: jerm2223

Pros: I love that I can setup the software not only to filter unwanted web content for my child, but also that I can limit the amount of time spent on the computer or certain programs such as instant messaging, or a specific game such as WOW.
Cons: No cons here, this is a great product and I highly recommend it.
