Pros: Lot's of features.

Cons: WSFTP used to be the king of ftp clients. Now it?s an unstable mess. Casual ftp users should go download a free client. Power users will tire of the bugs and application lockups. I paid good money for the full professional version. I am very disappointed that an application that has been around this long can be so bad.

Here are some SPECIFIC examples from my experiences with this product:

The application can sometimes hang when dragging & dropping files for upload. This requires having to force a shutdown in the windows task manager and restart the application.

Let?s say you have many logins that you manage (as I do), there is no menu function to backup and restore your profiles. After digging around their website I found a way to do it but it?s a convoluted process. It should be a simple menu function. Incidently, it does let you import from older versions of wsftp and competing clients such as CuteFTP and FTP Voyager. Go figure.

Thumbnail support is bad. When you change a graphic file, it won?t generate a new thumbnail. Not even if you ask it nicely. You have to restart the app if you need accurate thumbnail views.

Strangest of all is it?s tendency to get confused regarding what directory it is viewing. Often you can navigate to a directory on a remote server and if the folder?s name that you click on is the same as one you?ve previously viewed in another directory, wsftp will sometimes navigate to that previously visited directory. It?s the craziest thing that I?ve ever seen in a mainstream application.

In summary, WSFTP costs a lot yet behaves like a beta release.

Pros: This version of WS_FTP is awesome. I had been using WS_FTP LE as a student, lost my OS with Win XP. Now I have VISTA and WS_FTP Pro is Excellent as always.
