uDesktop runs on your active desktop. Save room and get rid of icon clutter on your desktop by adding all your shortcuts and links to an easily accessed drop down menu. Your links can be to programs, folders, files, websites, or the new customized uScripts. Add all your favorite pictures as desktop wallpaper. Wallpaper can be randomly displayed every time your desktop reloads, or at your chosen time interval. It can be stretched, centered, or tiled. uDesktop looks great and is very easy to use. It has been completely redesigned and rewritten to better suit your desktop needs.

Version 7.2 features new wallpaper transition effects, menu sorting, new user preferences, more wallpaper cycle intervals, more wallpaper position types, improved look and feel.

This small freebie lets you organize shortcuts into one desktop drop-down menu, though you'll need to pay attention during setup. Ultimate Desktop isn't launched from the Start menu or system tray; instead, it's set up in Windows' Display Properties as a desktop background option. You should see the day and time in the upper middle of your screen; if not, try refreshing the desktop. You'll find a few shortcuts to Notepad and Google maps already offered in Ultimate Desktop's pull-down menu. Just choose Open uDesktop to add shortcuts to Web sites, files, folders, programs, or even scripts. Additionally, you can set Ultimate Desktop to change desktop wallpaper at chosen intervals and easily add your favorite images to its wallpaper list. Backup data and JavaScripts for automating some tasks can be found and stored under the program's uScript tab. Ultimate Desktop offers any user quick access to favorite files and more.

  "Works maybe a 1/3 of the time"

  Pros: I like the idea and when it does work its great.

  Cons: This program will mostly just put a blank screen up. If you hit refresh it sometimes will work. Another problem is having to add files one at a time. If you want to put any good number of different pictures in the background you'll hav eto do it one at a time. A "add folder" or even better, a folder that is monitored would greatly help.

  Also the other features that are included with this app aren't much to talk about.

  "Nice idea which needs a few more tweaks"

  Pros: Easily change background.

  Cons: Doesn't cover the whole screen as a background set up in Windows Control panel does.
