Version: TubeSucker 1.0.004
Pros: The free version works and is ok but I got tired of setting there downloading one video at a time. After a few days of that, I finally broke down and bought it and WOW! ....now I get it. The whole purpose of this software is to download a bunch of videos, like thousands. Not 10 or 20.
Instead of surfing youtube and then watching a video and deciding if I want to download it, etc. I just type in a search for an artist, or other topic, and then click the "Download All" button. I come back later and I have hundreds of videos on my computer ready to go. That makes all the difference to me because I simply don't have the time to download one at a time. Of course, there will be some videos that you don't want, but you can delete those a lot faster than trying to download videos one at a time. You can hit the delete button while they are playing and it will delete that video and automatically go to the next video and play it, so you can cull through your videos pretty quickly.
For some general search topics like "crash" or "funniest" or "amazing", etc., where there are thousands of videos, I use the limiter to only get videos under, 15 or 20 seconds long. I have not seen that feature in any of the other video downloaders I have tried.
I like getting videos of artist from the past and adding them to my library. Most of the videos look good enough to use with my projector. The whole thing is pretty cool.
I bought the Turbo Pro version so I can run multiple copies at a time. I am able to run 8 at a time comfortably. Since videos download much faster than they stream to you, when you are running 8 TubeSuckers at a time, you can get videos much quicker than you can watch them. That is awesome, especially when friends stop by and you want some fresh entertainment quickly.
Overall, it is great entertainment and a glimpse of the future of internet video.
Cons: Took a few times to understand that I need to check the "Select All" checkbox to select all the videos in a directory before I hit play. If only one video is selected, it just plays that one video.
To use TubeSucker's built-in player with FLV files, you have to download an FLV codec first. You can get one for free from the TubeSucker Support page, but it would
be nicer if that was included. Not a big deal.
The Pro Turbo version is not cheap, but it was worth it for me. I could have just bought the Pro version and still been almost as happy, but am glad I spent the extra money because it is hilarious to see 8 TubeSuckers running at one time. That really changes things. There is not much waiting anymore.
