"Nifty Backup Program - Beware the Freeware 1 Gbyte Limitation"
Pros: For a long time, I've wondered why I couldn't find a backup program that would work reliably, and that would back up my files in native format. I have finally found one! The backup software that came with the external hard drives I bought have frustrated me beyond belief! Incredibly complex interfaces, and they could be counted on to fail after a few days. Further, you needed their proprietary software to recover the files. Hey - if I had access to that, I would have access to my files too! Duh. I want to be able to plug my external drive into my laptop or my replacement computer, and get my files back - quick!
This program is as simple as can be to use. Select the folders you want to backup, tell the software where you want the data to go, and when you want the backups to take place. Presto! You're done. Then you can browse through the backups and see the files in their native format. Gives me a "warm fuzzy" that I can get them if I need them.
Cons: First - beware - the free trial version backs up a maximum of 1 Gbyte. I paid the $30 or so it took to register the full version. Glad I did - but the vendor ought to be a little more explicit about the limitations of the free download.
Second - it would be nice to be able to use this utility to generate a bootable disk image. Maybe it can do that, but I don't know how. Anyway, I would like daily backups of my documents, mail files, and the like, and perhaps weekly updates of the entire C drive. I don't think this product can do that.
