Publisher's description of Total Annihilation

From Cavedog Entertainment: It was the ultimate victory--the victory over death itself--that brought about the downfall of peace in the galaxy and started the war that would decimate a million worlds. The process, which was called patterning, allowed the transfer of consciousness into durable machines. Effectively it meant immortality, and the governing body decreed the process mandatory for all citizens to ensure their safety. There were many who were unwilling to toss aside their bodies so casually, and many indeed who regarded patterning as an atrocity. They fled to the outer edges of the galaxy, where they banded together to form a resistance. Thus began the ultimate struggle for survival.

Editor's review of Total Annihilation

4 star editors rating For gamers who enjoy the excitement of Command & Conquer, this destruction extravaganza will definitely thrill if you can get past the outdated graphics. The world of Total Annihilation is drawn in 3D, which allows for some strategic advantages. Units can gain better range on higher elevation, and can even take cover behind trees if needed. Graphically overall this game is behind the times, yet at its release it was considered at the leading edge of similar games. Yet some of the gameplay still leaves a bit to be desired. Even the strongest units have a few disadvantages in Total Annihilation. Many are too slow, and require an extraordinary amount of resources for just one shot. Resources here too are hard to collect, yet you can recycle unit wrecks for raw materials. We like that units can gain experience to improve accuracy. Shooting strategy fans and especially devotees of Command & Conquer will find a lot to like in Total Annihilation.
