Torque Game Builder
Best 2.5D game development system on the planet...
by: JustOneOldMan
on 29-Sep-2006 08:30:54 PM
Pros: Easy enough for the novice to begin basic game development within hours, yet extremely powerful. Develop and create a viable game within weeks or months instead of years. Excellent support from a good company and great community.
Cons: The only con is that this is a new release, and as such still has a few wrinkles to iron out. This is not to say it isn't a stable product, and the authors are ironing out the wrinkles very quickly.

Torque Game Builder
Possibly the best 2D engine available to date...

Pros: -Physics and massive feature list.
-Level editor allowing you to prototype/design your game levels with ease.
-GUI Editor (Programming gui's can be a pain and sometimes even a project breaker, so this helps loads!)
Cons: -Physics is so good, it's hard not to do a Breakout/Physics based game or at least stop playing around in the level editor.
-Particle Builder could be easier to use.
-Other then that, the features list can be overwhelming, if that can be consider a con.

Torque Game Builder
Really fun tool, and powerful engine!

Pros: *Great documentation, ample tutorials
*Powerful 2D engine with more features than anything, including an awesome particle effects system, and everything you need to do all kinds of 2D games
*Easy to use, point and click tools for creating sprites, animated sprites, tiles, particle effects, collision information, and entire scenes.
*Frequent updates and improvements
*Huge, helpful community of nice users who seem to like to share resources and help each other out.
*Seems that lots of successful games have been made by independent and commercial studios using this tool. Gives me confidence that it's proven and powerful enough for real game development.
*Cool company... GarageGames seems genuinely interested in helping people to make their own games. Totally no-strings attached licensing.
Cons: I hate when people don't specify cons... but I can't think of any. Of course, I always want more features.. but it seems like they keep adding more, better stuff frequently, so I'm happy.

Torque Game Builder
This product is excellent!

Pros: I'm a hobby game programmer and if you're into making 2D games, this is for you. Writing a game engine takes time, plus man power. For a reasonable price you can get in and make your game quickly. It also gives you the means to add to the engine if your trying to do something it doesn't have. From animation, scrolling backgrounds, to particle effects you have the tools to make a excellent game. All you need is a little programming skill. There is a huge community to help if you're stuck also. So take the plunge!
