- "Trial for dedicated PDF users"
Adobe's Acrobat PDF creator is the industry standard, and with good reason. A comprehensive list of powerful tools, combined with a work environment capable of handling huge files and a well-designed interface make it the go-to program for PDFs.
Some of the newer features that impressed us include a range of annotation options; password and encryption for security; several signature preferences for making digital documents more official; automatically recognizing form fields; the ability to download entire Web sites and import them as PDFs; support for complex AutoCAD drawings; and a well-designed icon-based wizard to help the user figure out how to get it all done. You won't find any talking paper clips here.
Surprisingly, the biggest drawback isn't Acrobat's high price tag. To download the trial version, the user must register and fill out a survey at Adobe's Web site. Then you must wait for an e-mail to arrive with a link to the installer, which weighs in at 269MB and takes about 15 minutes to install.
All told, the process takes a half hour and is counterintuitive to the point of a trial version. If you need Acrobat's power, it's definitely worth a test drive. If you're a casual or occasional PDF creator, the unwieldy trial isn't likely worth the extra time and effort.

Version: Adobe Acrobat Professional 8
Pros: Good program, but not without competition and flaws. It does everything one would expect fron a $449.00 PDF program and does it well. Many options with a very professional looking interface, but............
Cons: I can't call it the best, great or without issues. Nitro PDF Pro is faster, lighter on your system, about 18% the price of this and about 16x smaller as it installes at 58 MB on disk.and does everything I need in a program of this type. It runs great on both XP and Vista where Adobe Acrobat Pro 8 gives me fitts on my Vista Home Premium system.

Version: Adobe Acrobat Professional 8
Pros: I guess it's still the best PDF editor around. But...
Cons: The install takes a long time and takes up 1.7GB of your harddisk space. Why in the world does it require so much disk space? (MS Office Pro 2003 only takes up a few hundred MB.) It is also very expensive at US$449. So people are going for the popular alternative - Nitro PDF Professional. It takes up only 40MB of disk psace and can do just about most of what Acrobat can or what the average PDF user requires. And it's only US$99.

"The original, but takes up too much space..."
Pros: Well... this is THE PROGRAM for converting to .pdf files. Adobe invented it so...
And sure it is a great program. You can create pdf:s, protect your pdf:s with passwords, make your pdf-documents unprintable, uneditable and so on.
You can do practically everything there is to do with a pdf-file.
The good thing about this prog. is that you've got it all in one application.
Cons: The BIG cons of this program is that it takes 1 GB of diskspace !!!
I've tried the pdf995-serie which takes about 1 MB and does exactly the same thing as Adobe Acrobat. But then you have to run 3 different programs to finish the file (1 to convert to pdf, 1 to edit and 1 to password-protect etc.)

"Doesn't work with my Office 2007 Install"
Pros: Probably works great in earlier versions of Office
Cons: One would think spending $450 for a software package would mean it is fully compatible, but I found out it doesn't interoperate with my Office 2007 the hard way and it is not going to be fixed for some time. Meanwhile, I downloaded Docudesk deskPDF and it has all the toolbar icons in place and does most everything I need...

Version: Adobe Acrobat Professional 8
Pros: As a Reader it is OK, but.....
Cons: I am totally baffled with the majority of toolbar items being greyed-out and unusable. Assistance is hopeless
