This free Firefox extension houses numerous links to sites for PC protection software, but it's more notable for its secondary features than its claims of PC protection.

The Gadgetbar Toolbar for Firefox lines up buttons to test your firewall and to scan and rid your PC of spyware, viruses, and hackers, but the program doesn't actually do any of this. It only provides buttons that give long lists of free sites and software to perform these tasks. It does, however, provide and perform some standard toolbar functioning, like clearing your browser's cache, history, and cookies. Its feature set includes a pop-up blocker, an online radio station, quick weather forecasts, e-mail notification, and chats with other Gadgetbar Toolbar users.

Although Gadgetbar's touted security features serve only as directional help, Firefox users looking for quickie cleanups and some dashboard tunes can put this download to good use.

Version: The Gadgetbar Toolbar for Firefox 4.5.128

"Many thanks for providing the Firefox version..."

    by jhc78 on December 6, 2006

Pros: Is there any chance of an Opera version coming out? Just checking. Thank you for making this toolbar free. You really put a lot of work in it with all the links and everything.

Cons: A few days ago - I was going to make a review with a con that I hadn't noticed any additions or upgrades and wondered if maybe the toolbar wasn't supported anymore. Plus, the website this bar is from said it was temporarily frozen because it reached it's bandwidth (You guys must get A LOT OF PEOPLE at your website for that to happen). But today I noticed the site wasn't frozen anymore, so I guess you fixed that. And I noticed a ton more links in some of the menus - so I guess you're still supporting it. So, with that out of the way - I guess I don't have any cons to report.

Pros: I really haven't checked it all too much but it has alot of good sites to look at.

Cons: Most of the TV sites are only good for the U.S. Not much for Canada

"Now thats what I call REAL TV & MOVIES!!!!"

by battleboyz on December 4, 2006

Pros: I've downloaded a lot of software claiming to offer free TV & Movies, but it was usually just news channels, maybe sports (Not even U.S. sports) & a lot of short films and "B" movies that weren't worth it.

But Gadgetbar is 4 REAL!!!! I'm really into Battlestar Galactica, 24 and nearly every Star Trek show & movie & then some... And Gadgetbar provided it all free of charge!

The only part that I wished that more websites could be more sensitive about is the fact that many of us are firefox users.

Most websites seem to favor IE best in that area. I didn't mind I guess. It's easy to open IE while still using firefox. plus, I found a firefox addon that allows my tabs to work / look like IE, making it easier for many sites that use IE for TV & movie viewing.

But Gadgetbar is what really pleased me the most! So far every show I ever loved has been available.. full length complete features, not trailers...

A bonus for me is the ability to remove spyware, and everything bad for computers using the free scans..

Cons: no cons that I can see. I did see the review from the person saying it had bad spyare, but none was ever detected - not even when I used pest patrol or symantec tools.

I read the Gadgetbar privacy policy and it says "no pop-up no pop-unders no spyware no adware no malware and no website spying no internet monitoring....

It went on and on about how it assures me that privacy is protected and nothing is collected about us personally. I can't imagine they would lie about that stuff because it's copyrighted.

I can't believe they could make such promises and lie about it because they could be sued. Copyright infringment and falsification policies stuff is serious.

I dont hear of law suits or court trouble about them and they even give all the local, state, county & federal agency information to report to on the Gadgetbar for fraud and things like that.

they would not do that if they were up to no good. I believe Gadgetbar and it's makers are good people with good intentions who are here to help - nothing more.

    "Linky links galore....."

by bulldoghigh on January 27, 2007

Pros: Aw, I aint makin fun.... Cause I'd never had found none of that stuff on my own. Pretty organized though.

I new there was scans n stuff, but never knew there was that manny. good to no that we can all get by for free insted of payin for all that scan stuff.

Since every buddy already said they liked the tv and movie stuff i wont need to chime in my too cents.

love the unusual ideas and web site thing. that was funny. make more of that stuff.

Cons: at first, the bar instaled kind of long on my screen. I figured how to make it fit but wished there was some kind of derections on that.

    "Clever idea..."

by chriswoodat on January 22, 2007

Pros: Sometimes, I'd like to spend more time on the internet doing something more productive than "Multi-player games", "chat rooms", looking for cools softwares, etc... But w/ a lack of knowledge where to go or what to do, I tire of it quickly. After downloading Gadgetbar, I was impressed w/ the fact that not only was I presented with a large link database, but that I could save money on so many of the diagnostic & scanning programs that I wanted. Now I use much of what I sought through the Gadgetbar. The different scanning menus for different types of helpful computer fixes was a ggreat help for a while as far as finding new things to do. But you can only fix & trim so much. I was impressed with the Infinity Button, which gave me more - but I find myself a connoisseur of websites... I prefer getting more hits of what I'm interested in. Don't get me wrong, I know the infinity button surfs randomly & what's more is that it gets only as interesting as the sites that get submitted to it - but I just have a certain preference. I did enjoy the Armor links Menu & INFO / FAQs Menu too. Definitely much of what I found there I will use as time goes by. I also got a kick out of the "Old Time Radio Stories" website... I've enjoyed listening to a few from time to time. But I think I've spent the greater amount of time using the Free TV & Movies Menu, because of the great many movies that are available that are brand new as well as many I'd missed some time back. So, I must say, my efforts to find more time using the internet has certainly increased - however, I'd like to ask a favor. Could you possibly offer another link / menu / etc... where it offers a ton of links along the line of "Interesting Things to do on the Net" or "Fascinating Sites" or "Absorbing & Engaging Facts and/or interactive Webpages", etc... I'm sure you get the idea. Just another fully loaded menu filled w/ activities, trivia, facts, etc... It would be a great addition if you could add another menu with something like that in it.

Cons: I noticed that Gadgetbar was recognized as a browser helper object when performing scans w/ Ad-Aware SE Professional & scans using System Cleaner 5 & wondered if it would disable the toolbar if I deleted it.

I know that these detections are not bad & that the Gadgetbar has no spyware, malware or junk in it - but I like to have a minimum of programs running simultaneously on my PC in order to maximize power & resources. If I don't see an answer in a few days here - I'll email & ask you then... I like the bar & want to continue using it - I just want to disable the part that is detected as the browser helper object. It's just a small .dll file, but I just want to make sure I don't create a problem by disabling it.
