Although we appreciate its free status, this run-of-the-mill toolbar doesn't stand out from the crowd with any special capabilities. The Free Toolbar sits unobtrusively in your browser window, blending seamlessly into the overall mix. This program lets you comb the Web via eight search engines, including MSN and Google. You'll also find a dictionary, a thesaurus, and a very bare-bones utility for erasing your Web-surfing history. The app's built-in pop-up blocker was certainly not invincible, stopping some basic pop-up ads but allowing other to squeak through. The Free Toolbar also won't work with Netscape, Mozilla, or any browser except Internet Explorer. But since it is totally free and doesn't take up much room on your system, we think that certain users might get some benefit from this toolbar.
