Publisher's description of The Enkoder

Posting your email address on a Web site is a sure-fire way to get an inbox full of unsolicited email advertistements. The Enkoder application for Mac OS X protects email addresses by converting them into encrypted JavaScript code, hiding them from email-harvesting robots while revealing them to real people. Just past the JavaScript code block it creates into the HTML source of the website you're creating, in exactly the place where you'd like the address to appear. Then view the page in a web browser, and you'll see the link appear.

Note: This tool is only useful for protecting an email address on a web page you've designed in HTML. It cannot be used when sending email or when posting your address into a web form, or adding your comments to a forum. And remember, the only way to be completely safe is to not publish your address at all.

  Close, but not close enough

  Pros: It does replace emails with Javascript. I think that's the best method.

  Cons: I was looking for a program (for the Mac) that would look at an HTML document and obfuscate the email addresses within it. Instead, this program requires you to input the address, then copy and paste the javascript back into your own HTML document. If you have one with 10-15 email links, that is a lot of extra work. There is a great program for the PC that does this (Troll Trapper), but it isn't even available any longer. Any Mac developers listening? This is a great opportunity. Wish I knew how to develop code...

  Does exactly one thing as well as it's worth bothering to do it

  Pros: Simple to use, and as bulletproof as you can easily get.

  Cons: None, really. The only "con" (that it only works with JavaScript enabled) is actually a pro.
