SurfSecret PestPatrol
How many clones does pestpatrol have
Pros: Works
Cons: pestpatrol has many gliches and so does this product. Surprised a little? NOpe. 11/18 on adware/spyware tests makes it middle road.
SurfSecret PestPatrol
A very nice program that I have used for over four years.
Pros: It has always seemed to detect spyware that Spybot and Ad-aware have missed on my system. For this reason, I would say that a combination of PestPatrol and Spybot should keep your computer mostly free of pests. It's Memory Watch (which has caught items several times while downloading), and keylog detector are an added plus. I really never use the cookie manager (I tend to use another program instead). I do like the description and rating system of the pests detected.
Cons: It is not unusual for shareware to have limitations until you purchase the product, but with so many free spyware programs with excellent features PestPatrol does fall short (under a non-purchased mode, it detects spyware but does not remove it). I have had some programs have conflicts with PestPatrol, but the program itself always seems solid. I have written the company and asked why there seems to be so many PestPatrol clones on the market, but never received an answer. Downloading updates seems slow under dial-up and scanning a larger drive (greater than 20 MB of data) should be done with some time free to do other things.

Weird
Interface is weird and unhelpful. Not worth $5 let alone $40. Rubbish waste of time.

Great product.
PestPatrol comes with many detection engines for cookies, keyloggers, and real-time spyware active in the physical memory. While it does not differiate between malicious spyware from spyware that is benign, it detects almost everything that can be potentially be spyware. When you get the scan results, you must look over which programs you are willing to allow entry to you computer, but PestPatrol will find it including trojans. I think what makes PestPatrol better than free applications such as Ad-aware, and Spybot, is the real-time detection shield which essentially works like a anti-virus constantly monitoring the computer for malware. It PestPatrol detects spyware in a application you are opening, it will halt the execution, and warn you. Then you decide you want to delete, or stop the process. It's not as memory intensive as Webroot's Spy Sweeper program, which is good. Free version of PestPatrol doesn't delete anything, it only detects. Overall I found it to be a good program.
