CinemaForge is a video player, video converter, and download/upload utility. The player supports (FLV) and (H264) video formats like (MP4). The converter supports Ipod (MP4), Flash (SWF), Flash (FLV), Motion Pictures Group (MPEG), Audio Video Interleaved (AVI), Window Media Video (WMV), Real Video (RM), QuickTime (MOV), Advanced Streaming Format (ASF), and JPEG (thumbnails). Version 2.6 added an flv/mp4 video player; quick register form for uploading; fixed multiple issues from user feedback requests.

This combination video-conversion and creation tool boasts good speed and a nice set of features. CinemaForge's polished interface is both handsome and rather simple to understand.

As a video converter, the application supports all expected formats, including SWF, WMV, AVI, and MOV. You also can choose to accompany any video with audio files of your choice rather than the original sound. When you click the digital-camera icon next to the File Input box, you'll be able to browse your computer for still images to compile a video file. If you choose to perform this action, you can apply a few transition effects, determine the image interval, and add your own music files.

Although CinemaForge was quick to generate a slide-show video, the audio came out sounding much muddier than the original file did, even when we upped the bit rate. Elsewhere, the program lets you tweak certain aspects of your new video, including frame rate and quality. You also can choose to crop videos, apply a deinterlacing filter, and upload videos to the Web (if you have a CinemaForge account).

We should note the program can't be uninstalled by traditional means; instead, you have to click the question-mark icon on the main interface. In spite of the aforementioned quirks, CinemaForge is overall a solid piece of software.

  Waste of time: Annoying and worthless

  Pros: It has an intuitive skin

  Cons: 1) Every time you start cinemaforge it tries to connect to the internet

  2) If you deny access to internet the program crashes

  3) It could not convert a flv file. Just said "view report" and the report said: "Unsupported codec (id=0) for input stream #0.1." Obviously - although the program has internet access - it is not able to look for the codecs it needs.

  Cons: I downloaded this specifically to convert a .swf (shockwave) file to another format but when I tried it, it said .swf is an unknown format. Doesn't it say right up there in both the publisher's decription and the editor's review that .swf files are supported? Or am I just seeing things?

  Pros: It easily converted files from my camcorder to pc, to mac. Very versatile and easy especially for free.

  has potential, but extremely buggy

  Pros: Pretty fast, all things considered

  Cons: I'm trying to convert mp4 to avi, which this software says it can do. HOWEVER, there is no sound unless you strip out the original audio stream as an mp3 and then re-mux it. This means three passes where a decent converter would use one. Bitrate and resolution adjustments are meaningless. Help file is useless. May work better in other format conversions. But, hey, it's French and it's Free. It's Free French Merde!
