Publisher's description of Strategic Commander
From ZindaWare:Strategic Commander is a strategy game simliar to 'Master of Orion', Milton Bradley's 'Risk' or MicroProse's 'Civilization'. You can play against one or more computer players or mix computer players in with humans to make things more interesting. Human players can each take turns using the same device or use the infrared port to 'beam' turns to each other. You start by building a combination of manufacturing and research facilities on the planet under your control. Choose your approach wisely: Should you invest early in research to build a small fleet of high tech ships? Or instead focus on dominating the universe with an enormous but low tech fleet? Strategy is king in this game--how you use and invest your resources is as important as how well you do in searching out the enemy. Your objective is to find and capture the home planets of the other human or computer players. Send your ships out to explore the multitude of planets, conquer and take over those at strategic locations. Capture the home planets of the other players to grow your empire. When you destroy all the other players, you've won the game!
Version 1.2 now adds infrared support for multipilot games, Palm OS 5 support, and the ability to save multiple games.

Version: Strategic Commander 1.2
"Extremely addictive turn-based space strategy game"
Pros: Play against up to 10 computer/human opponents on same device or via IR (haven't tried against other humans) on a randomized 2D map, balancing production of spaceships vs increasing research to improve your spaceships. Simplified logistics, some timing involved as it can take more than 1 turn to reach certain planets. Easy-to-use interface. Not real-time, so that I can leave the game at any point and come back to it later. So addictive and replayable I am still playing this game after 3 years.
Suggestion for experienced players: Choose Medium-sized universe and Hardest opponents. Sometimes you will start off with a bad map position that will make it a tough game to survive and win.
Cons: The battle animations are primitive and tedious to sit through to find out how many of the victorious enemy ships were left remaining if large numbers were involved. There is a skip button, but a more detailed post-battle report on numbers remaining would be better. Computer AI is not very good which is why I recommend fighting the maximum possible. They're stupid, but like to gang up on you.

"Best strategy game ever for Palm OS!"
Summary: This game is extremely well-done. If you have ever played Spaceward Ho! on the Mac, you will love this game!
