Stellar Phoenix FAT & NTFS provides data recovery from hard drives used on Windows (Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT, Windows XP, Windows 2000, and Windows 2003) operating system. Data recovery from deleted/lost partition or formatted logical drives is supported. Undelete deleted files recovery after recycle bin is emptied or use of Shift+Del key. File recovery from Missing or Lost folders using advanced scan feature. Recognizes and preserves long file names when restoring files and folders. Stellar Phoenix is read-only software and is safe to scan hard drive. Data recovery support from FAT (FAT16, FAT32), NTFS and NTFS5 file system drives. Unicode name supports recovery of European & Asian character set file names. Software interface and help are available in English, German, French, Italian and Spanish languages. Stop and Resume data recovery at a later stage using "Save Scan".
Version 2.1 supports recovery of compressed files.

"RIPOFF! Demo is bate and switch! Product doesn't NTFS as advertised!"
Pros: Nothing! If the product did what it claimed, then it would be great. Unfortunately, it doesn't!
Cons: Product says that it fully supports NTFS. This should include compressed files. Unfortunately they do not support NTFS compression. There documentation, sales literature, web site, and support site do not let anyone know this fact. Instead, they ask you to work with their support staff who says that NTFS file compression is not supported. When you ask for a refund, they say that they can't offer a refund because the file or drive is using NTFS compression. In short, they bate you in with product claims that are not true, get your money, and then refuse to give a refund.

"Very nice, very pricey, very useless unregistered"
Pros: Found almost every file existing on my horribly corrupted 80gig hard drive. Seems to be one of the best programs available for data recovery.
Cons: The demo is useless - It recovers nothing. Because I couldn't recover even one file with it, I can't tell if it actually even works or not and have wasted a good deal of time messing with it. So, unless you're straight-out buying, don't bother downloading.

"This software is a total ripoff."
Pros: None
Cons: One of our clients had a serious ntfs harddrive crash. We made the more serious mistake of purchasing this product.
1. First they offered no support at all. We installed the software on a computer and tried to recover the bad drive, only to fail. When we tried to install the software on a second computer in case the first computer was the issue, it wouldn't install and claimed we could only put it on one computer and recover only one hard drive ever.
2. Second, it took several hours to get the software after we purchased it. There was no instant access to using what we paid for. As an IT professional trying to help clients, this was just DEATH.
3. Third, StellarPheonix did a very lousy job of recovering the files, leaving us with many corrupted files that couldn't be backed up with normal or advanced backup software after that. Other recovery software could successfully recover these files and we had to pay for GetDataBackNTFS which did sucessfully recover all the files.
I warn everyone in the sound of my typing-- steer way clear of this software and the company that issues it. None of us have time for this crap.

"It will recover files from one previous Windows installation."
Cons: While this program did recover files from a previous Windows installation (which I had saved on a maxtor hard drive and didn't really need anyway), it failed to recover even one of several thousand photographs that were lost due to an accidental reformatting before that installation. I ran the extensive logical drive search which took several hours, but nothing other than aforementioned one-installation previous files were found. Too bad, as I had really hoped it would locate at least some of the photos I lost.
