Publisher's description of Starship Troopers: Terran Ascendancy

From BlueTongue:

Based on a novel by Robert A. Heinlein, and then brought to the silver screen by director Paul Verhoeven, Starship Troopers is said to have been an innovation in the science fiction genre. Now it's your turn to take on the horrifying and insidious arachnids populating the planet of Klendathu, in Starship Troopers: Terran Ascendancy. Lead your team of grunts into the fray with 3D squad-based, real-time strategy.

You begin the game fresh out of boot camp, as a green cadet lieutenant. Your platoon consists of six squads, who are led by an assortment of non-coms, including sergeants and corporals. As your squad gains more experience, they are outfitted for a variety of assignments, from seek-and-destroy missions to bug-hole demolition, advanced recon, and specimen capture. Each individual infantryman can be assigned a specialist role, such as Medic, Combat Engineer, Stealth Infiltrator, or Special Talents. Coupled with intense gameplay and unique 3D worlds, it's squash or be squashed.

Based on Paul Verhoeven's film adaptation of Robert Heinlein's classic sci-fi novel Starship Troopers, Starship Troopers: Terran Ascendancy makes you commander of a squad of Space Marines tasked with annihilating the insect-like inhabitants of a faraway planet. Unfortunately, the horrible interface ensures you'll spend more time struggling with the controls than squashing space bugs. Unlike in most real-time strategy games, the landscape in Terran Ascendancy doesn't scroll when you move the cursor to the edge of the screen, which makes it extremely difficult to follow your troops. You can recenter the view on your squad by pressing the space bar, or lock on them by pressing Num Lock. However, this causes as many problems as it solves, since your soldiers can shoot farther than you can see, and you often can't issue attack orders in time. The graphics and sound are impressive for the year 2000, when Terran Ascendancy came out, but the demo doesn't have many options--no multiplayer capability, no skirmish mode, just a single-player scenario. All in all, even die-hard fans of the movie will want to indulge their planet-pillaging impulses elsewhere.
