Version: Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.24
"Excellent malware removal, frequent updates"
Pros: Malwarebytes Antimalware is a real gem of a program. Having used it extensively to remove realworl, active and running, malware threats from many machines I can attest to the programs effectiveness.
It's emphasis is on detection and removal, not prevention. It excels in the former and will find rootkits, vundo, and all manners of nasty files. It even attempts to repair hijacked desktop settings, administrator rights, and other Windows functions - repairing, not just removing, the threat from your system.
The authors are frequently updating the program with new technology and malware definitions. They are trying to keep pace with the large amount of daily infection files that can be found throughout the web and specifically concentrate on files that your typical antivirus software misses.
The program will even install while in safe mode for those heavily infected systems.
Cons: Realtime protection from the professional version leaves a lot to be desired.
It is easy for malware to terminate this program (when such malware has it's own self-defense mechanisms).
Program interface is large and can be difficult to use when in safe mode.

Version: Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.24
"limited functionality for free - not a free try!"
Pros: I could try the local scan option (no problems found with Spywareblaster and SpybotSD installed). Software interface is clean, straightforward.
Cons: The 'built in protection monitor' requires a small onetime payment. That is, the core of protection is not available in the free version, you cannot even try it.

Version: Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.24
Pros: We had an invasion of AntiVirusXP2008 which, after being caught by our own anti-virus program, left behind some annoying executibles and a desktop pop-up that wouldn't go away no matter what we did. Our computer services guy told us to download this program and it took care of the left-behind mess. All stations work perfectly now. We're going to put out the $25 to get the real-time application.
Cons: Doesn't tell you exactly what to do once it's found the problems. But, that's being picky. This is a great piece of free-ware.
