  I don't normally write online reviews, but my experience after upgrading to version 8 makes me think I owe it as a public service to do so. I had used SplashID for years, but recently upgraded to version 8 after receiving an email inviting me to do so. What a catastrophe. It turned about 175 records into incomprehensible gibberish, and then synced them across all my devices. All the so-called failsafe back-up systems did not help: the emailed vid files could not be opened, and the web-based back-ups were all corrupted. Just as bad, the customer support has been wretched. After initial responses that only suggested doing what is on the support centre website, the communication simply stopped when that did not work. No follow-up, no suggestions, no apology. Absolutely shocking service. Have now switched to 1Password, which is in a different league. Do yourself a favour, and stay clear.

• Nothing better I can find that uses local wifi-sync

  1. Very nice easy-to-use interface 2. I've always been able to use local wifi-only sync 3. Pretty straight forward to use my PC version as conduit between my iphone and ipad

  1. Costs money and back when I first purchase anyway, had to buy both iphone/ipad version and the PC version that I use as my local wifi sync point. Not that much really though for security the way I want it. 2. It has been buggy for me and threw me into a panic a couple times when my data looked like it was all corrupted. There is a bug or two somewhere based on combination of having wifi enabled or not or something like that; however, when I rebooted my iphone and started the app again, my data wasn't actually corrupted. This is definitely my BIGGEST complaint and the only reason I don't give it 5 stars as nothing is worse then thinking all your passwords are GONE.

  Some things to note that may have been issues peeps have seen based on other comments I read through. I have been using this app for years and in the past (and really even now) have been very pleased with it. I believe I purchased the licenses I am using over a couple years ago. It looks like the version I have on my ipad and iphone have been updated to 8.0.5 and I still have the ability to use wifi-only sync through the version I have on my PC. HOWEVER, I will agree with the person that I saw comment about how their passwords were automatically copied to a cloud. It looks like if you have an iphone (this didn't happen when my ipad version got updated) it automatically gave me a 30-day trial for the cloud version and switched the sync method on me. I don't recall being given a choice. Anyway, I didn't realize it until I discovered that on my ipad, I could still add new records but I couldn't do so on my iphone. The reason is because the sync method on my iphone had been switch from wifi to cloud and I just happened to be disconnected from my wifi and a long time ago had set the app to not allow cellular data (along with many others that could potentially consume data from your cellular plan). I finally figured this out when I went into the sync settings of the app and saw that it was set to "Cloud sync". I am thinking that this combination of things may have cause others to think the app stopped working and what not. I think that if it had been given as a choice in the first place it would have prevented at least a few peeps (like myself) frustration and an overall better perception of this app. I still think it is a great app and intend to keep using it. I know that as software and the conditions around them become more and more complex, strange conditions may cause unwanted frustrating, so I personally can accept that. My 1.25 cents

  I used this for years, and used to like it.

  Cons

  This company seemed to have faked a warning: "someone tried to log in > 10 times, so we have suspended your account". All my data were trapped inside Splashdata app, and I began a month-long series of requests to the company to turn it back on, following the link in their "turned-off for your convenience" e-mail. All were unanswered. Not even a "We'll get back to you." The interface in their e-mail notice forced me to download their new "Cloud" version, which I had no interest in whatsoever.

  Summary

  Avoid this company and its products at all cost. I've moved on to oneSafe. It's actually much better than Splashdata's amateurish products. So maybe it's a good thing Splash tried this phony forced upgrade. I almost never bad-mouth any product online, but their behavior here is so unethical, and their response to my repeated inquiries so unprofessional (no acknowledgement whatsoever), that I feel I must warn anyone thinking of buying their products. I wasted hours writing to them, and eventually rounding up anew all the data I had kept in my Splash "safe". Spend 2 minutes Googling, and you'll see there are many, many people ripped off just like me. Splash went Splat! Good riddance to them.

• I can lose my passwords for free

  Relatively simple, fairly intuitve It syncs across devices (stay away form the cloud version for sure). See the amazon discussion of this for the true picture of real people who have used it.

  Cons

  It often doesn't work and there is the problem. You will lose all your data (files are gibberish, files are gone) and there is only email support. They don't even bother to read your email. I have gotten essentially the same response to every problem I have had - it is a script and all further communication is a waste of time. I have been using if for 2 years - once you have all your stuff entered it is hard to let it go - so I know what I am talking about

• Works good for more than web autofill

  It acts like a database. Easy to store things like my clothes sizes and the combination to the boat ramp lock, etc. Works on my Mac, iPhone, iPad, PC Does not need to be stored in the cloud

  Does not work with web browsers to auto fill logins The wifi synch still does not work seamlessly between iPhone and Mac

  Summary

  I've been using this product since my Palm Pilot days. There were some major glitches in getting it to synch in the prior versions to the current V7. I have to set up an adhoc wireless network to get my iPhone to synch with the Mac. But my iPad works fine on my regular wifi network. Since I know how, its not a big deal, but getting to the solution with tech support was quite an ordeal. I have not tried the cloud backup/synch yet because that methodology is really not secure by its nature AND I wouldn't trust it based on reviews until they have a couple of point released. Overall, I continue to use the product because it acts more like a database than some of the new products like LastPass. I have several different categories stored like combinations for my boat ramp lock, my wifes clothing sized, my glasses prescription, etc. I also have a few attachments linked to some of the entries. Tech support has greatly improved since my last upgrade. They responded withing minutes of my ticket entry - even in the middle of the night. And the response worked to fix the issue (corrupted Mac library files)! I think they have worked hard to overcome some of the shortfalls of the last couple of years and they are almost there to a 5 star rating. Overall, I recommend this company and products.

  lost many passwords and records. The upgrade and funnelling to the cloud has been almost extortion... "you'd better.... or else".....

  Summary

  this upgrade dropped all of my attachments and re-wrote many of the record fields back to vanilla... so, I can't tell if I'm entering User info or Password info... this upgrade has been an absolute disgrace. Check their facebook page for all the unhappy customers. Before this version, although it had some bugs, it was pretty good software, and I've had is since the Palm Pilot. But now..... it's rubbish. I paid for both Mac desktop and iPhone versions, and seriously considering alternatives, but as always... when you've invested in something, you try to stick with it.... but newbie's be warned.... they want to $uck your pocket$ dry.....

  As noted by other reviewers, this forced upgrade is a scam. It is difficult to use, nearly impossible to sync if you don't want all your information in the cloud, and you have to pay for the inconvenience.

  This is the worst upgrade Spash ID has ever rolled out. Don't do it.

• WARNING: Don't buy it!

  Looks good at first. I've had this product for a few versions. Every update had data corruption issues. This last one, V7 lost all the data on some devices. I sync between a PC, Mac, iPhone and iPad. I purchased cloud sync, didn't work at all, none of my data would sync. Tech support has only one message telling you to export your data and upload to cloud using web interface. Export worked once and failed thereafter, in any of the 3 formats. Web upload failed completely, never worked. Furthermore, what looks like a free update on iPhone/iPad isn't. After you've committed to the update, it doesn't work until you buy licenses. This was on previous versions also. Plan on spending $20 to $40. And then it doesn't work at all or you'll at least loose some of your data. In addition, I've attempted to contact them for a refund a number of times, no response at all!

  Worst software I've ever wasted my money on! WARNING!!!!

  Where to start? Corrupted old data - mixing logins and passwords and account numbers between individual records (it's a password safe with garbled data!), the app crashes, charging for sync, etc., etc. I've moved to 1Password...

  review by MnSteve is right on - version 7 is useless. When your handset doesn't have a network connection you can't even open the database.

  This used to be a decent app, did you test version 7 at all?? What a disappointment, you need to fire your product manager.
