Publisher's description of Advanced Text to Speech
From Rose City Software:Free your Eyes: All new Advanced Text to Speech 3.6 (ATTS) is a Text to Speech utility based on Microsoft Agent Technology. ATTS makes it simple to have your computer read text out loud - simply select the text you want read and copy it (Ctrl+C) to the Windows clipboard, and ATTS will take care of the rest. You can also have ATTS save the spoken text to an audio file (WAVE or MP3) to listen to later on your PC or a portable audio device. Use ATTS for reading emails, online articles, contracts, memos, and proofreading letters and manuscripts. ATTS 3.6 also has a handy new Reminder and Alarm feature that you can set to remind you to do anything you tell it to. Simply type in your reminder message, set the alarm and ATTS will help you stay on top of your busy life. At 2.7 MB, award-winning ATTS is smaller and more powerful than ever. Why strain your eyes reading a screen or waste paper and toner when you can have text read back to you?

Version: Advanced Text to Speech 3.6
"doesn't naturally speak for me without adjusting control panel"
Pros: I have a recording studio set up and run windows xp on my PC. I have several sound cards and and audio interface running from my computer to my suround sound speaker system and stereo. Usually everything sounds fine when I switch on my computer. I can chat, play video games, stream, play cd's, dvd's and hear whatever is on the internet web page I have up at the time without any adjustments, as well as record a multitrack song whenever I want. But, I could not get my computer to read a sample paragraph from the opening file of this application.
I guess that was a con. Sorry.
Cons: It made no sound. It probably would have if I had made a fuss about it.

Version: Advanced Text to Speech 3.6
Pros: ATS works well enough compare to any other TTS engine/application I used so far. My favourite is pronunciation correcting feature, which you won?t see in other TTS applications. So you decide how the program will pronounce certain words, completely in control.
Cons: 14-day trial is a bit small for testing such technology and understanding advantages. The voice won?t be exactly human like AT&T natural voice, no matter how perfect you configure speed/peach etc. User can?t import voice(s) to change the default voices. Some minor bug issue also can be annoying.

Version: Advanced Text to Speech 3.6
"This is a good Text-to-Speech program and will probably live up to your needs"
Pros: I used this program to read long texts (books) to me while I drew stuff, and it worked great! You get used to the not-quite-human voices, they're not boring. There is a pronunciation correcting feature, where you can tell the program how to pronounce certain words.
Cons: When the program tells you the time, it interrupts the current playback.
I tried changing the welcoming message it says when you start it up, but that setting never got saved.
Also, for some reason, when starting up, the program would load old texts that were submitted to it earlier. It might even display an older text while reading the newer text to you (the one you asked it to read just now) which is a bit strange.
But those are just minor drawbacks.

Version: Advanced Text to Speech 3.6
"Only better version I found is $4,000+"
Pros: A friend of mine got speech software designed for over $4,000 designed to help students with learning disabilities... the only advantage I see over this software is that it also reads PDFs and does visual tags. I use this to save as MP3 and listen in my car, so visual is meaningless.
Cons: Doesn't read from PDFs, but if you can find a good PDF-to-text reader, that eliminates that problem. The voice is unnatural, but not more than any other text-to-speech readers I've heard.

"Does a very adequate job - voice is very artificial"
Pros: configurable. also lets you creat3 MP3 and WAV output files. Good value for the money.
Cons: voices are not pleasant to listen.
