"Multimedia done right"

RealPlayer has been in the multimedia game for a long time and it shows. Loaded with features including Quicktime playback, RealPlayer lets you watch full-screen video in theater mode, and remains the only player to play its proprietary realmedia file type. You can find, purchase, and download new music for your iPod and several other portable music players.

Using the included browser, you can sift through Web video clips, check out the latest music on Rhapsody, listen to online radio stations, play games, and more. Some of the links in the interface were unresponsive in our testing. Overall, RealPlayer provides a source for music, video, and other online multimedia, and--with improved video quality--tends to do the job nicely.

"works great, especially the real player downloader"

Pros: i really like how you don't have to pay to download videos. all you have to do is go to a website like YouTube and and soon as the video plays it's sent to the downloader and you just press download. it's very easy and convenient.

Cons: i can't figure out how to convert the videos into a different format so that i can use them in programs like iDVD. it tried the Help feature but it didn't help me at all.

"the beta was fine, the gold version is buggy, go figure"

Pros: New features are offset by poor performance and bugs.

Cons: Every time it is launched, it wants me to configure it, and closes my browser. I trashed it and returned to using version 10.

Summary: Newer isn't necessarily better.
