• First Impression OK

  Pros

  I've been ages looking for a program to slice files into equal time segments, this does just that and will work in batch mode too. It will also slice into a given number of equal slices or slices of a set filesize.

  Cons

  It does try to get you to install other programs, but it's quite open about this and they're easy to spot.

  Summary

  I haven't tried any of the other features, but so far so good!

  Installed directly from their website and had it working in seconds. Wanted to trim a few segments out of a 90 min video. Found start and end times I needed using MPC-HC, and then used marked each segment out using the left and ride tabs, and clicked "Save". Took minutes to edit out the two clips I needed. Very pleased. Saw no sign on first day that this was limited in any way. Spent longer writing this review than I did using the software to trim my two clips!

  Cons

  Interface is quite simple, but when it starts up the preview screen is hidden BEHIND the control screen. Took a while to realize where it was. The main icons need pop-up text labels. A button to jump 5 seconds forward and back would be helpful for pinpointing clipping points. Same with 1 frame at a time.

  Summary

  The 5 main icons on the toolbar are: Play/Pause, Play from current point, Stop and go to start, Put LEFT thumb at current point, Put RIGHT thumb at current point. Once you move the preview window to a place you can see it, drag the playing thumb to a suitable point in the video and press "Play/Pause". When you find the beginning of the clip you want, press "Play/Pause" to pause. Use the 4th icon, "Put LEFT thumb at current point", to set the position of the LEFT thumb. Do the same for the right thumb. Click "Save", select a new file name, and a few seconds later you are done.   There are no step buttons to go forward 1-10 frames for fine tuning, and no goto begin/end. Worst of all, after marking several sections to split the video, it would only export the whole thing without splitting.

  Summary

  There is no spirit of "freeware" here, this is only a lure to their payware. Don't waste your 30 bucks.

  Requires no technical video insight in formats, codes, etc Cleans up various codec mess and installs aligned selection helps you having the proper software with advanced install.

  No how-to on how to page for quick start explaining removing parts of the video giving the problems below.

  Summary

  You have to figure out that marking the start and end of a sequence and the pressing 'Remove' does... nothing. Except saying you have to select a part. But there i s no part to select, not even the hightligthed blue part. After fooling around you have to guess you should press 'Add' to have your selection listed in the large white space. From there you can not 'Remove' as you would expect to cut away a sequence, but 'Process' as trimming seem to mean keeping the desired part to no remove the undesired. If you have amended the filename for saving, you still have your file after this potential mistake and can press 'Invert' to list the part you want to trim (shorten). Now, if the column of buttons starting Process had been to the left not to the right, you migh have figured out the buttons would interact with the large white space. There is no drag and drop of the marked sequences. good for removing parts in AVI's once you have fooled around and figures out how it should be used.
