SkinCrafter ActiveX Component allows developers to create unique looking style applications and fully interactive user interfaces. Support for Windows Forms (.NET), MS Visual C++, MS Visual Basic, Delphi, and all Win32 languages that support COM objects. SkinCrafter increases the value of applications by giving them a modern look and feel, and making them more attractive to end users. Semi-transparency for all windows controls is supported.

In version 2.1, new UserData feature added, now it's possible to store data of any type inside the skin. Native Support for .Net Framework v2.0 and VS2005. InitLicenKeys function now takes 4 parameters instead of 5, "purchase id" param was eliminated.

  Version: SkinCrafter 2.1

  "Be Exceedingly Wary of this Alluring Skinning Solution"

  Pros: Nothing much to like. See below.

  Cons: Hello,

  Apparently, things haven't changed. I downloaded the 3.1 version of this product for VB6 (this is the ActiveX version)-part of the suite that contains controls for VB.Net 2005.

  It is still true that this product is woefully buggy! Our commercial-grade app works fine without SkinCrafter. When we run it using SkinCrafer, we notice these major issues:

  1) Methods such as the textbox's SetFocus stop working and throw errors in the VB6 IDE.

  2) Label controls just disappear.

  3) Weird screen artifact remains when dragging a SkinCrafter form over an underlying form. The screen is not repainted properly, leaving "marks" or "trails".

  4) The client area widths and heights have changed in nearly every screen, meaning that you have to size your forms differently once skinned. Worst about this: All skins are not created equal and you have to have different sizing tables for different skins if you want to offer more than one skin to your end-user!

  5) We all know that third-party control CANNOT be skinned. You have to ensure your app uses only standard VB6 controls or you will end up with a real hodgepodge of a GUI.

  6) The product is ridiculously expensive. These guys are incredibly arrogant to offer such a piece of sh-- for so much money. UNBELIEVABLE.

  7) The VB6 IDE often quit with a GPF-shutting down the entire IDE. This never happened before adding SkinCrafter.

  I agree with the previous post: DO YOUR DUE DILIGENCE and test, test, test. Things change and you will be left scratching your head: "Didn't that feature used to work before SkinCrafter or did it break for some other reason?"

  I have no axe to grind with the company other than to alert others to avoid this total piece of crap. I wasted HOURS of my time, held out for the 3.1 release, and have been totally and utterly disappointed.
