SecretShredder exceeds the U.S. Department of Defense standard for disk sanitization -- DoD 5220.22M -- by writing predefined patterns of data many times to your disk. When you surf the Web people can track your movements using cookies. SecretShredder automatically shreds the files your browser leaves behind (cache, cookies, and history). SecretShredder now implements the safest method of shredding currently available, the Gutmann method, which applies 35 random and set patterns to your files before they are removed.

  Software unzips with errors. Company does not respond to email requesting help.

  Pros: none

  Cons: After I purchased the software, the file will not unzip correctly and will not run. Over a month, I sent 3 emails to the company requesting help; there has been no reply. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

  SecretShredder

  Best Mac shredder I've found overall

  Pros: I use shreddit in work on my PC but have secretshredder at home on my iMac. Overall I prefer secretshredder as it seems simpler to use than shreddit. The thing I really find useful is that when I close Safari it automatically pops up and offers to shred my temporary internet files. If you share your mac with other friends/family then this can be a good idea. The file shredding was free in the trial version but I had to register to get the browser and disk shredding, which IMO are the best features. Another good thing is that this program is a really small download (only 250K or something) compared to the others which are a couple of MBs.

  Cons: I think they could have made better shredder icon for the dock, but no other issues.

  Cons: the product does not work, the company does not respond after they rip you off.

  save your money and get a good free eraser.
