Second Copy
Does what it claims it will.
Pros: Not for everybody but good for all with just a touch of patients and computer know how. The profile takes a few minutes to figure out and configure but once completed it works like a charm. Scheduled backups never miss a beat. It's cheap compared to other like software and works better then most. Good for both Vista and XP.
Cons: Like I said, not for those lacking patients and computer know how. User Interface is nothing to write home about. But for those looking for a cheap, reliable backup program, this is as good a choice as any I've seen lately.
Second Copy
I use Second Copy for instantaneous backup of development files - Great!
Pros: In my software development work, I needed a tool to create backup copies of files automatically whenever they change. Also, to maintain a number of generations of backups. I needed the backups to be placed on a separate drive, and to work whether or not the files were in use by another program. Second Copy meets these needs very well, running transparently in the background, it just carries out its functions without my having to think about it or interact in any way. The backup files are just always there, always current. Very fast, very light. Highly configurable for a wide variety of uses. Great value.
Second Copy
There's nothing more to backups than a Second Copy.
Pros: The best thing for me is that all the functions are very well explained so I didn't have to worry about making a mistake and realizing I didn't backup anything at all. Also, the interface is clean and the program can run silently in the background without much strain on the processor or even the harddisks.
Cons: It would be nice to see a function where you can exclude a single folder instead of adding all the other folders.
Second Copy
Tried 'em all, Second Copy is best
Pros: Easy to set up and use once you "get it". Another one I tried I never could quite figure out what they wanted in setup screens, others too complicated. Second Copy has plenty of options to customize your copy or sync and they're easy to figure out. I sync all my document files between two computers and it does a fine job.
Cons: Like another reviewer, I would like it to sync open files, but that may be asking too much since an open file can change from one second to the next. It asks you if you want it to try to copy open files but this never works so they should remove this option. This is the only reason I gave it four stars rather than five.
