- "A full-blown multimedia powerhouse"
Boasting an attractive interface and an extensive feature set, J. River Media Center leads the pack of media browsers. The installation takes some time, but it's time well spent.
The program's appeal is apparent even during installation, when you can select from six program skins. Moreover, you can choose a small or a large interface, depending on how much space you'd like the program to occupy on your desktop. Upon launch, it automatically ferrets out media files on your PC and lets you preview details such as resolution, production date, and size. Toggling full-screen views or starting a comprehensive slide show is a mere click away. We were impressed with the program's ability to browse all sorts of media, including photos, videos, and audio files, without relying on external players.
Some of the apps many powers include the ability to burn, rip, and play CDs; to generate playlists; to record sound; to create disc labels; and support and synchronization options for external devices like iPods. To boot, the program even comes with a TV tuner. Media junkies with high standards will wonder how they did without J. River Media Center for so long.

"The BEST Media Player Around!"
Pros: I?ve always wanted a media player that #1 is as easy to navigate as iTunes, #2 has plug-in options as Winamp, #3 has the cool sound options of WMP, #4 can actually sync my iPod correctly!! After using Jukebox, I gladly upgraded to Media Centre.
Cons: Like ANY program, once in a blue moon bugs do appear, but they are utterly infrequent, and the only thing I'd add to my wishlist is support for my LeadTek TV card and .mkv files.

"I Would Give it 6 Stars if I Could"
Pros: Easy to use. If it behaves in a way that you dont like you can usually change the way it does things in options. You can customize the visualizations. Pod cast management is awesome. Easy to sort and find things. I could go on and on....
Cons: AVI playback quality not quite as good as Windows media player. When I tried to improve playback quality I did something and now it wont play avi at all??? Have not had time to contact J. River for help though.
Summary: I Love It! I deal mostly with homemade audio files and J. River MC12 does not hassle me about not having a license or warn that there is no internet info available like Windows media player. I dont like Windows Media Center at all so this is a gre... read more >>

"Crippled by No Customer Service"
Pros: Best media player I've ever used, hands down. But...
Cons: I had a problem with the "free trial" right out of the gate (the software updated itself and my 30 day trial turned into 9 days in a matter of seconds). No problem, I thought, I'll just go to the website and contact customer support.
