Also included is WordSurf, a powerful reference tool with 120,000 root words for finding synonyms, antonyms, and word relationships, and a unique pattern-matching tool for finding words based on their lexical stress patterns.

This program provides a number of handy tools for working with words, but it also consumes a great deal of system resources. Downloading Rhymesaurus's 50MB installer can take a while, and once the program is on your machine it eats up nearly 100MB of RAM. Although the program's interface is not beautiful, it is simple to understand at first glance. You simply enter a term into the search box, then choose from such options as Dictionary, Thesaurus, and, of course, Rhymes. If you opt for the latter, you'll find all sorts of options for narrowing down the program's list of generated words. For instance, you can specify that Rhymesaurus return straight rhymes, reverse rhymes, homophones, or just terms with assonance and consonance. We can recommend this program to folks who work with words on a daily basis, so long as they have plenty of hard-drive space to spare.

  Rhymesaurus

  A LONG-TIME FRIEND

  Pros: It comes with a help file but the program is so easy to use I have only had it open once. Offers a multitude of options for finding just the right word. Not only for rhyming, it comes with a dictionary and a thesaurus that has always come through for me when others have failed. The WordSurf option gives definitions and clickable links to synonyms.

  I has proven itself a great addition to my arsenal of word crafting applications. You have to try it out to fully understand its many benefits.

  It should also be mentioned that support really is available. After a system failure, my reg key was lost. Support responded with a new one. That has not always been my experience.

  Cons: There is nothing I do not like about Rhymesaurus.
