Publisher's description of Returnil Virtual System Premium Edition

From Returnil:

The Returnil Virtual System Premium Edition provides an altogether different and highly complimentary level of defense. It is designed to protect your computer from all types of software, downloads, websites or anything else that might harbor viruses, spyware and other malicious programs. Returnil virtualization technology clones a computers System Partition and boots the PC into this system rather than native Windows, allowing you run your applications in a completely isolated environment. Hence the session and all activity, malicious or otherwise, will happen in the virtual environment, not in the real PC environment. If the PC is attacked or gets infected, all you need to do is to simply reboot the PC to erase all changes. After reboot, the system will be restored to its original state, as if nothing ever happened. All of this without sacrificing computer performance or usability.

Version 2 includes File and Folder List Manager with create/import/export support, selective file and folder change commit while using System Protection and Session Lock, total session save, Browse and Move which allows the user to see the files on the real hard drive and to move files back and forth between the Virtual and Real Systems, and Drag & Drop feature to save documents simply by dropping them on the RVS Toolbar.

    "Very powerful but restrictive"

    by ct716 on June 25, 2008

Pros: Knowing that no matter what happens during a session on your PC that when you reboot it will revert to it's previous state is very comforting. Viruses, trojans, you name it cannot permanently reside on you system. You can select certain files or even a whole session to restore to the 'real' drive. It can run permanatly or 'on demand' via session lock

Cons: If you want to keep it on permanently it can be difficult to keep other apps up to date as changes are overwritten at each reboot. Files that are in use will not copy over and registry changes can't be copied to the real drive. You will need something to protect you between reboots.

    "Best program ever!"

    by mcrae41 on April 30, 2008

Pros: This program has 'no' drawbacks. If there is a drawback it's that the operator must remember whether he's in protection ON or protection OFF mode (easy to do since there's a little window on the top of your screen that tells you whether it's ON or OFF). It provides complete and utter protection for anything that's on your C: drive (whether you like it or not) if it's turned ON ... you MUST switch to protection OFF if you wish to change something on your C: drive. I opened Itunes and it automatically updated my podcasts to my C: drive but since protection was OFF, they weren't really saved to my C: drive - (nothing can change on your C: drive while protection is ON). That was my mistake not RETURNIL's and it's exactly 'why' it works so well. I just keep Protection ON for days at a time and only turn it OFF when/if I want to change C:.

I've got it on my DELL XP SP2 laptop and my ACER Vista Home Premium desktop and it's working well on both.

Cons: the only thing I don't like is that I'm a senior citizen and my memory is not in what it used to be and (before downloading or saving anything) I must keep reminding myself that I can't change anything on C: with Protection ON. It's simply the best program on my computers.

    "the Premium Edition"

by lovelyliu on December 1, 2008

Pros: it add the function that i can save some fiiles or apps useful under the porotect mode.this point is excellent .i almost use if everyday on my office pc.

Cons: some time i forget that i'm under the protect mode.and i install a piece of software i need.but the next day i boot my pc i totally find that i just did nothing changed.and i have to shut down the returnil and install a second time....

Summary: if it could remind me i'm under the protect while i try to install a software new,it should be a more comfortalble one.
