Publisher's description of Registry Mechanic
From PC Tools:Registry Mechanic is an advanced registry cleaner for Windows that allows you to safely scan, clean, and repair registry problems with a few simple mouse clicks. Problems with the Windows Registry are a common cause of Windows crashes and error messages. By using PC tune-up utilities such as registry cleaners regularly, your system will be more stable, your software will run quicker, and your operating system will boot faster. Registry problems can occur for many reasons, including references left behind after uninstallation; incorrect removal of software; missing or corrupt hardware drivers; or orphaned start-up programs. With a few easy steps, Registry Mechanic will scan your entire registry for any invalid entries and provide a list of the errors found. You then can choose to clean each item or automatically repair them all after making a backup without the need for a registry editor such as Regedit. PC Tools products are free of spyware and adware.
Version 8.0 includes re-designed interface and new plug-in framework.

- "This Mechanic could be friendlier"
Although not feature-rich, Registry Mechanic checks your registry for errors that can slow down and crash your computer. The utility can find a wide range of defects, including references to already uninstalled programs, missing help files and broken shortcuts, virtual devices, start-up programs, fonts, and configuration files. It also can automatically repair invalid entries at Windows start-up.
The Quick Scan has been abandoned in this version in favor of an exceedingly fast and comprehensive Deep Scan. The program also makes backups, so it's easy to restore a fix gone wrong. The left-nav-based interface is uncomplicated and easy to use, and fortunately there are some extra horses to support this former one-trick pony: other features include a defragger, a "registry compacter," and a system optimizer.
It's too bad, then, that the stringent restrictions on the trial version make it difficult to analyze the effectiveness of the program. The trialware allows for only five sections of the registry to be repaired, the compacter was similarly crippled, and the defrag and system optimization buttons had no effect. Given these handicaps, our recommendation of Registry Mechanic is also hamstrung.

Version: Registry Mechanic 8.0
"Spots over 200 registries in my PC"
Pros: The scan is quick,it's fast and it detects over 200 registry errors! The free version only fixed 6 sections of the system though. Really nice registry cleaner that is a must if you want to get top notch performance out of your PC. It's definitely worth the money.
Cons: I would have given it 5 stars if it hasn't included useless options like Control panel, automatic updates, system restore, system properties and many more which made if look confusing at first when i thought it comes with many additional functions WHICH are originally from PC tools! I would rather open these programs by pressing the start button on the taskbar or right-clicking my computer icon and select properties.

Version: Registry Mechanic 8.0
"Doesn't really feel like a new version"
Pros: Nice interface.
Cons: I'm a long time user of Registry Mechanic. I swear by it, and suggest it to all of my friends and co-workers.
However after buying version 8, i'm severely disappointed.
Before install version 8, i did a scan with Registry Mechanic 7, and repaired all problems. After installing version 8, it found no additional issues.
However the scanning engine isn't my main problem. The overall issue is that Registry Mechanic 8 doesn't have a lot of features. Upon initially opening it, it SEEMS as though there are a lot of options, but after exploring for a bit, you quickly come to the realization that it doesn't have that many at all.
Overall, Registry Mechanic 8 is nothing more than a series of links.
Computer Management opens up the default Windows Management box, system restore opens up the default system restore window, clicking the defrag button opens up the Windows defrag utility, clicking security opens up Windows Security Centre, clicking performance monitor opens up the Windows Diagnostics Tool... There are MANY more buttons, but every single one of them basically act as a link to basic Windows software.
Heck, there's even a "Control Panel" button, which, you guessed it, opens up control panel. Thanks PCTools, i couldn't click Start in order to find the control panel!
At the end of the day, Registry Mechanic 8 does the same exact job at Registry Mechanic 8 -- The only difference being that Registry Mechanic 8 has links to a bunch of different default Windows services.
My verdict: Not worth the money, stick to verison 7.
