Editor's review of Read 2000 American Newspapers
With its limited content and strict demo limitation, this software will be doubly disappointing to news junkies hoping for a fix. Read 2000 American Newspapers' interface is a simple list of newspapers and a display window. Installing this application is quick and easy, but still takes longer than you'll be allowed to use the trial version of the program.
This program claims that it delivers the news from thousands of papers in just seconds. Like a dog that fetches a chewed up and wet newspaper, what is laid at your feet isn't what you thought you'd get. The list of newspapers is merely a set of links to the papers' Web sites. There is no method to add, sort, search, or create favorites in the list of news sites. Clicking a link opens the site in the program's display window. There isn't an option to open a site in your default browser. That's a problem as many of the sites couldn't correctly open or opened with script errors. Its difficult to gauge if this program suffers from browser memory leak, or to troubleshoot the issue at all, as the demo opens for less than two minutes for each use.
Gathering this many news site URLs is not as daunting task as it would seem by the cost of this application. In fact, there are many free sites on the Web that offer such lists. In addition, RSS feeds for each of these papers would make for quicker reading. With the script errors, locked-in display, and other problems we can't recommend this application for anyone.
