Loop-based producers rejoice! You are no longer at the mercy of your loops. Propellerhead's new ReCycle 2.1, with support for Mac OS X and Windows XP, 24-bit audio, and multiple undos, gives you a massive amount of control over your grooves. ReCycle works by analyzing a sound file and creating "slices" wherein a drum hit occurs. You then can rearrange and manipulate these slices to create unique loops. You also can change the tempo and pitch or apply equalizer and filter functions. The interface is well-designed and customizable, with tool tips aplenty. We liked the 24-bit file support that brings ReCycle up-to-speed with modern audio-software formats. ReCycle now comes bundled with two specialty applications: Reload converts ReCycle files to a variety of formats for use in other applications or hardware devices, and Reason Adapted is a handicapped version of the company's popular software-recording studio. ReCycle and the bundled goodies make it easy for first-timers to flex their beat-making and production muscles, while the new pro-minded features make it an acceptable solution for more demanding situations.
