The year is 1830, and you're poised to become a railroad baron, one of the most powerful figures in American history. This high-quality game throws players into the construction of the early transcontinental railways, as the owner of a small railroad company. Careful strategies can bring success, wealth, and power, but only after you overcome the hazards of the frontier. We were impressed by this game's high-detail landscapes, moody retro music, and well-designed interface. Its slow pace might not attract gamers used to action, explosions, and bloody firefights, but for those interested in a detailed, high-quality historical simulation, Railroad Pioneer is on the right track.
