Editor's review of Punch Professional Home Design Platinum Suite
If you've ever dreamed of being an architect or landscape designer, this software may be tailor-made for you. The program offers a suite of extraordinarily intuitive tools to help design a home, bringing a user step by step through the process from foundation to roof. A simple drag-and-drop interface helps finish a project with everything from electrical sockets to trees in the yard, drawing from a huge library of interior and exterior objects. A 3D preview function, complete with variable lighting, allows a would-be designer to see the work as a whole. The trial version of the download does have tight restrictions, disabling many of the tools and objects and making it impossible to save work. However, we recommend the tool strongly to anyone in the process of designing a home or landscaping a yard.

Pros: User friendly interface. Does foundation, Floor, plumbing and landscaping. Easy to use. Bought the full version and the power tools are really nice. Wow it even does cost estimation. Brings in files from Autocad. The framing Editor allows you to turn stud walls to concrete or concrete block.
Cons: I couldnt get it to run at first, till I updated my video drivers, then it worked just fine.
No Macintosh support.

Nearly impossible to use

Cons: Poorly written and laid out user guide; not for the novice; very frustrating to understand; this should be easy but Punch has made it almost impossible to enjoy.

Punch Professional Home Design Platinum Suite
awesome!

Pros: I have never used any type of architecture program before, but the video tutorials made learning easy. There are tutorials for everything from laying walls and navigating the animated walk-through and fly-around, to adding lighting and creating complex decks. You can fully customize furniture from within the program and you don't need AutoCAD to create your own objects. Everything is simple drag-and-drop; very easy to use. The 3D View looks amazing, in my opinion. I did my own house with this program and it totally feels like you're there.
Cons: If you add lots of furniture and complex 3D objects, it takes a long time to render the 3D animation view. (But you don't have to keep the 3D View open.) Also, you can add/remove floors, so supposedly you can create floor cutouts, but I haven't found out how to remove ceilings, which you would also need for it.
