From Outside the Box Software: Pow Pow's Great Adventure is a 2D/3D action platformer. It features hand-drawn characters in a 3D world. Pow Pow is thrown into a strange world with his girlfriend Mai Mei. However, it turns out Mai Mei and Pow Pow are at the opposite ends of the world. They both must traverse through various environments and defeat many enemies to meet up with each other.

Though not action packed, this platform-style game has a few things going for it. In Pow Pow s Great Adventure, you play the hero of the same name, as you navigate moving platforms and obstacles to pass each world and reunite with your girlfriend. Along the way, you ll need to collect coins and avoid enemies, although we didn t find the few foes we encountered very aggressive. Unlike many platform arcade games we ve tested, this one has big, well-detailed 3D graphics, which makes it easy to see and control your character. The downside of this polished design is the game takes up a considerable amount of system resources. In terms of features, the program lets you reconfigure the controls to your liking, play in windowed or full-screen modes, and adjust the audio volume. The game s story line seems engrossing, but since the demo only lets you view half of the intro, it s hard to get a feel for your exact goal. Nevertheless, Pow Pow s Great Adventure seems like it will serve to keep younger gamers entertained.

  Looks like it should be so much better

  Pros: Graphics and cut scenes are very flashy and create a great impression.

  Cons: The game itself is fairly straightforward. Although presented in 3D it's really a 2D game, the style reminded me of Pandemonium from the PSone. I found the PDA a neat idea but the controls for it a bit confusing.
