This well-crafted, standalone newsreader makes an ideal choice for both novices who've never heard of an RSS feed and advanced users looking to put some oomph and flexibility into their reading habits.We particularly liked FeedDemon's setup wizard, which allows you to subscribe to an unlimited number of popular RSS feeds by simply checking boxes. The program also provides links to several other RSS directories.

FeedDemon's interface is very good, but its default setting, which places the headline and browser panes side by side, is somewhat clumsy. This is easily remedied with the buttons that sit right at the top of each folder and each item. The utility's Watch Channels feature searches for news items containing user-specified keywords and places them in a separate group so they're easier to find. We're also fond of the app's News Bins function, which allows you to archive a story simply by dragging a headline and placing it in a storage bin in the left-side column.

Another compelling feature is the integrated podcast manager, which will automatically send new podcasts to your music jukebox. There's a support forum where you can post questions and get answers from other users, and Newsgator has a free webware client so you can check your feeds wherever you are. We strongly recommend using FeedDemon to soothe your hunger.

  Pros: Easy to use and easy to set up.It has tabbed browsing so you can open multiple sites and you can share it easily on sites like Digg and blogging sites.Everything you would want in a program.

  A dream for me

  Pros: As I am still getting used to FeedDemon, I learned hot to add subscriptions and remove some. The ability to open a feed in my default browser is a plus for me.

  Cons: I have yet to figure out why one pane shows a number of feeds, the viewing pane says there is nothing to read or view.

  More bloated software... no wonder it's free now

  Pros: Nothing.

  Cons: Way too big a footprint and takes up too much resources. If you just want to read feeds this isn't the software for you. This is just bloatware where developers didn't know when to stop. No wonder they couldn't sell it and now give it away. These guys should look at Snarfer for the rightway to do RSS.

  Pros: It allows Craigs List RSS feeds

  Cons: Not like Opera where you can do searches for keywords

  Easy to use interface great for alerts

  Pros: This is the first rss software package that I used. It has a great user interface. I was able to remove all unwanted subsriptions easily. I was able to set up an alert for rss messages for approaching thunderstorms with my own sound byte.
