True to its name, Pop-Up Stopper Basic acts as a simple plug-in that integrates with Internet Explorer to kill pesky pop-up ads. In our tests, the program capably blocked most ads we encountered and provided us with some interesting options. For example, you can specify what sound you want Pop-Up Stopper Basic to produce when blocking an ad, from a squashing noise to a whirlwind effect. You can set the app to be aggressive about stopping pop-ups or you can allow it to be a bit more lenient, though we wish it also could eliminate Flash ads and banners. Though it's not the best choice in a crowded field of similar apps, we still think Pop-Up Stopper Basic makes a nice pick for anyone who wants a reliable, low-maintenance way to liberate him- or herself from intrusive ads.
