In spite of its slim feature set, this run-of-the-mill shooter game gets a boost from its rather polished appearance. In Platypus, you must save a peaceful civilization of creatures from invaders by blasting them to smithereens with your trusty spacecraft. The claymation-style graphics are pleasing to look at it, with nice details in the landscape and the background. You can choose to operate the game with your keyboard or mouse, select a dual-player mode, and disable the energetic music, but you can't change ships or resize the game window. Although this game's concept is decidedly simple, it still offers a decent challenge, because the enemy ships advance at a fast and furious pace; we had a tough time even getting through the first level. The downside is the one-hour trial may not be lengthy enough to allow less-skilled players to advance very deep in the game. If you're a fan of arcade-shooting titles, you might as well take Platypus for a spin.
