Peer2Mail lets you store and share files on any Web mail account. Web mail providers such as Gmail (Google Mail), Walla, and Yahoo provide storage space that ranges from 100MB to 2GB. Peer2Mail splits the file you want to share/store zips and encrypts it. Peer2Mail then sends the file segments one by one to your account.

Once P2M uploaded all file segments, you can download them and use P2M to merge the segments back to the original file. Fixed a problem with Netscape mail. Has a patched security hole and Lycos Mail support.

Version 1.61 build 7 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.

For all the advances in disk storage space and broadband Net connections, it often remains difficult to share a large file with someone online. Peer2Mail tackles this problem by tapping into the large amount of storage space provided by Web-mail services, including Yahoo and Gmail.

With a simple interface easily accessible even to those without any technical knowledge, the software takes a large file, splits it up into pieces, and uploads it to one of the Web-mail services. Anyone who has access to the same account--which means they know the login name and password--can then download the pieces and reconstruct the original file. It's an attractive alternative to traditional file-sharing networks, since it involves sharing with only a small community, and does not allow access to your own hard drive.

Similar to using a secure FTP server to post or download files, it instead uses Web applications with which novice computer users are likely to be familiar. We recommend it as a simple way to share large files among a small community of people with a high degree of trust in each other.

  Not too fast transfers

  Pros: Works indeed :) I succeeded in transferring 500 Mb of files using Peer2Mail.

  Cons: Not too fast, I'm not sure this transfers will be reliable enough.
