From ReFog Software: When you enter your password on most sites, you see only asterisk signs. This feature is intended to protect your passwords; but sometimes this feature becomes more of a pain, rather than help. Password Spectator is a software that lets you see the actual password behind the asterisks.

View hidden passwords on many dialog boxes with this utility, but don't expect it to work for all Web sites as promised.

Password Spectator's interface is really a dialog box that gives instructions for using the program. It's a slightly convoluted operation. Hold the Control key and float your mouse to the password. Press the secondary mouse button to display your password in a separate window. The program worked for all Windows-based password dialogs, but failed to reveal passwords on the major e-mail Web sites we tried.

This is a freeware tool, and some users may not mind the multiple steps needed to reveal passwords. However, we have found numerous freeware applications that outperform this utility. While anyone from novice users to system administrators could use Password Spectator, you might want to spend a little extra time testing other application in this category.

This was extremely easy to use - the editor's review is idiotic

Pros: Hold control and click on the hidden password - this opens another window that has the password revealed. Ummm that's astoundingly simple.
Yes, I guess there are programs that only require you to hover the mouse over the hidden password to trigger the revealing, but geez, at a certain point does it really matter. To call this more complicated it to call oneself an idiot

Cons: It worked perfectly. Installed quick and easy and I have Vista SP1

Password Spectator

It revealed the password in my FTP program.

Pros: Easy to install. Directions are on the screen immediately after installation, so I was able to get my password instantly. It worked on a software application (an FTP program) rather than only on a web page. I would give this 5 stars if it did not require a reboot.

Cons: Upon finishing installation, it requests a reboot. That made me nervous about spyware, but CNet claims to screen the software and I also scanned it with my own up-to-date TrendMicro antivirus and it passed the test. Fortunately, it was ready to use right then and there WITHOUT having to reboot. I would give this 5 stars if it did not require a reboot.

Did exactly what I wanted in the way I expected.

Pros: I needed to recover my password in Outlook 2003 so I could set up a new computer with Outlook 2007. This software did it quickly and easily.
