Although the personal edition provides a smaller selection of features it is still a simple PHP IDE that is enjoyable and efficient with less experienced and demanding developers in mind who will need a simple but powerful development environment for learning writing applications and Websites powered by PHP. Version 5.0.2 improve bracket/brace highlighting, Statement highlighting, example if you select if then it will also highlight else, Improve the speed/performance when automatic detect new classes, functions and variables is on, Filenames are now displayed correctly in the code inspector.

  Overall a great software to use

  Pros: The inline code help is great way to quickly write code. I also liked the layout of the IDE. A spell check option or plug-in would be just great!

  The best free PHP editor

  Pros: PHP Designer is by far the best free PHP editor I've seen. Unlike EditPlus, conTEXT and similar software, PHP Designer actually supports proper syntax highlighting and has a wealth of useful features - tooltips to help with functions, automatic detection of your own functions and classes, and much much more. If you're looking for a free alternative to Dreamweaver, this is the software for you.

  Cons: It's missing a file-comparison tool.
