Publisher's description of AutoHotkey
This open-source utility can automate almost anything by sending keystrokes and mouse clicks. You can write macros by hand or use the macro recorder. You can also create hotkeys for keyboard, mouse, joystick, and handheld remote controls. Virtually any key, button, or combination can become a hotkey. Similarly, you can define abbreviations that expand as you type them. For example, typing btw can automatically produce by the way. Finally, you can create custom data entry forms, user interfaces, and menu bars.
Other features: remap keys; change soundcard settings (like volume or mute); use a joystick or keyboard as a mouse; make any window transparent, always-on-top, or alter its shape; manipulate the clipboard; customize the tray menu's icon and menu items; and run existing AutoIt v2 scripts; and convert any script into an EXE file that can be run on any PC. Version 1.0.47.06 has dynamic function calling and fixes two minor bugs.

Version: AutoHotkey 1.0.47.06
"Superb! THE best free macro recorder."
Pros: Very powerful; intuitive; supports multiple instances; excellent help documentation; small footprint. All the great things you look for in a simple program.
Cons: If you don't have any programming experience, you may find that this program's script-based use is confusing at first. It is a simple language, however, so you will pick it up fast, especially with the included help.

Version: AutoHotkey 1.0.47.06
"Very Good for handling repetitive tasks"
Pros: Fairly easy to use and help is generally good when writing scripts.
Cons: It seems the file browsing is pretty slow as you wait quite a while for it to do a search. I was surprised there doesn't seem to be a way to do a general file search and then check the results without user help.

Version: AutoHotkey 1.0.47.06
"An excellent program for both simple and complex macros."
Pros: The level of control AutoHotkey provides is amazing. It doesn't just record your actions. It records them acording to the current window. If I have NotePad open and copy into IE. It remembers that I copied from NotePad, not position 358, 591 on the screen.
It provides an easy to use recorder, so you can record the macros yourself, but it also allows you to edit the macro. That way you can record the basic motions you want it to perform and edit them to do exactly what you want it to do.
Cons: There is a bit of a learning curve to be able to utilize the more advanced capabilities of this program. However, the documentation is excellent, which allows you to write macros that do EXACTLY what you want them to.
