Although more of a PDF editor than a dedicated viewer, this program trumps Adobe Acrobat in several respects. First of all, the program takes almost no system resources and doesn't make you suffer through any installation process whatsoever. Similarly, it also launches much more quickly than Acrobat. However, we should note that in our tests, the program crashed when we tried to load a file larger than the 10 pages the trial version restricts you to. Even though you can preview documents in the PDF format, this app's main job is to transform them to text files for editing and printing. In terms of features, PDF Text Viewer allows you to perform simple edits such as cutting and pasting text, changing font size, and zooming in or out. If you just need a straightforward PDF editor and a speedy viewer as a bonus, we give PDF Text Viewer our stamp of approval.

  Pros: Everything is good in this program, 778 KB

  and 10-page for the unregistered users.

  Cons: $39.00 to buy, It is to much.

  Clean and fast.

  Pros: After multiple download and install failures with Acrobat Reader 8.1, and no usable direction form Adobe "help", I discovered that Adobe has a bug that is a major hassle to get around-- and for which they provide no info, let alone support. I gave up and went looking for an alternative. Glad I did. Foxit installed and loaded quickly, and provides what I need most of the time, which is a way to view pdf documents for research or printing out. This without the bulk, sluggishness, hangups and other issues associated with Adobe Reader. Loaded instantly and beautifully in IE when I called it.

  Cons: When you go to the Foxit site, you will be presented with a promo for Foxit Pro, free if you agree to participate in a list of offers. It's a bit misleading. To get the free version of Foxit Reader, click on "download" in small print just below the program description on the front page, then select the version with installer.
