A newer version of Internet Explorer 8 is available.

Features

Publisher's description of Internet Explorer 8 beta 1

From Microsoft:

This beta preview version of Internet Explorer8 is intended for Web developers and other Web professionals. It is not intended to be a functional product for Web surfers.

Internet Explorer 8 beta is intended to enable developers, web developers and IT pros to begin to test the new browser for compatibility with their applications and Web sites. End-user improvements include two new features: Activities and Web Slices. Activities are contextual services that allow easy access to Internet services from any Web page. WebSlices is a new feature for Web sites to connect to their users by subscribing to content directly within a Web page. WebSlices behave just like feeds where clients can subscribe to get updates and notify the user of changes.

Version: Internet Explorer 8 beta 1

"Don't download the new version until the final release."

by willt on March 13, 2008

Pros: I am one of these people who likes to download programs in the BETA stages just to feel the new features and enjoy the benefits before the final releases of the software. I have seen screenshots and read reviews and knew I weren't going to get much but I though "Yes I will download it". My advice to you is don't. It is definatly the worst BETA I have ever seen and come across.

    PROS:

Its much faster than Internet Explorer 7, and thats the biggest reason why I downloaded it. For speeds, however even though it is faster I want an added feature to make it faster and impress me.

I thought the bolded parts in the URL would annoy me, but its okay and its a good safety feature to have.

More right click options and good use of Internet services.

The best option for me though is the "Emulate IE7" button, so I can actually browse in peace.

    Cons: CONS:

The new interface looks nicer on the outside but using it makes me cringe. Its not as soft as IE7, its very sharp. Feels like Windows 95 style. Not the Windows Vista smooth WOW. The favorites looks neater where it is in this version but its a bad place to put it, because it covers the tabs making it look messier.

There seems to be a lot of free space when using only one tab which is awful, and could be used for more Internet Previewing space.

Now comes to content of websites. HORROR!

Its is awful, to say you can't browse is the under statement.

You are very lucky to go to another page when clicking on a hyperlink. Textboxes in youtube don't work, pictures at download.com are messed up. All websites are affected by this dreadful bug. You can't search or even write a download comment with IE8. The only way you can is by pressing the Emulate IE7.

The worst BETA I have come across. Microsoft have to do alot with this browser before it can make it successful. It doesn't even come close to the 5 stars I gave the previous release. Lets hope they can provide us with a better browser in the final release of IE8.

Version: Internet Explorer 8 beta 1

    "Better than IE7"

    by jeff.114 on May 31, 2008

Pros: Problem I had with IE7 was with the Pogo.com site. Whenever I tried to load up a game, it would close. But with IE8 Beta 1, it stays open, and loads the games up, which is a plus.

    Cons: Nothing so far.

    "Better"

    by mrcsg3 on March 6, 2008

Pros: I can definately say it's much more responsive than before, - way faster, and so far hasn't crashed on me once. I've used it on all my regular sites and it's working fine. Way snappier.

    Cons: None yet
