Publisher's description of GrabIt
From Shemes:GrabIt is a newsgrabber that enables you to use Usenet without downloading headers. Its features include fast selecting, downloading, and decoding of binary attachments; a familiar-looking user interface; and advanced error checking while downloading. Download and decode multiple articles at once. Other features include filters for showing/hiding downloaded or deleted articles, a search option for groups and articles, and a pause function to free bandwidth.
Version 1.62 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.
Editor's review of GrabIt
3.0 stars
GrabIt helps you collect Usenet posts and binary files as groups instead of one by one. The program installs quickly. At startup, GrabIt asks you to enter a default newsgroup, which you can change later.
After downloading posts you can sort them by category, name, or date. You can automatically download new articles every so often and decode them either right at downloading or after. The program also checks spelling. GrabIt shows you clearly at what speed the articles are downloading, how many are already downloaded, and how much time it will take to grab the rest of them.
The biggest problem with the software is its complicated interface, which is overstuffed with buttons and notes. While the interface leaves something to be desired, the program's output looks good.

Version: GrabIt 1.6.2 beta
"if you use NZBs this i sall you need"
Pros: lots of options but if like any newsgroup user with any sense you are using NZBs to download movies etc this works brilliantly with such as newsbin and becomes very simple , still don't know what half the buttons are for but it works for me . reliable , solid and FREE !!!
read the comments and advice on its site to make it work - some simple probs easily solved .
Cons: initial issues with set up made me try else where , i.e if you do not download headers from at least one newsgroup hen all your downloads become saved as text (oops) easily solved but puts you off

Version: GrabIt 1.6.2 beta
"A News Reader with a familiar P2P syle interface"
Pros: The only way I'd want to use this program is with a NBZ file indexing site. I used nfonews with Grabit and they worked great together. I clicked the files from my nfonews Grabit started downloading them nearly instantly. There was no need do download a huge amount of headers like Xnews. That's a big plus if you are pulling from a group with a lot of headers.
Grabit is set up very much like P2P or Bit Torrent software. It puts all the headers in a queue and downloads them in order. Also it always shows at what speed you are downloading. In all it's a pretty user friendly interface.
Cons: You can't really browse groups like traditional readers. You can't see pictures without downloading them first. This program is best used for downloading large files like movies.

"Good program but could use a better interface"
Pros: usually able to grab binaries from across different newsgroups and sort according to groups or specific folders
Cons: no inline previewing of graphic images prior to downloading associated binaries

"Hands down, the best newsreader I've found."
Pros: Automatically handles yenc, can be set to auto-decode file sets. I found the interface, despite the CNET editorial review, very logical. Another plus is that the developer, Ian Shemes, will actually answer your emails if your question is something not covered in the help. Finally, for a fee of $20 per year, it can be search-enabled. And the search is fast and accurate.
Cons: I like just about everything about this software. The only bummer is that I am migrating to Mac and there is no Mac client. I am an avid usenet user and am keeping a cheap PC laptop just to use Grabit.
